Harbor Freight Jack Stand Recall

The jackstand recall should be a reminder to all how important they are.
A few years back I had a cousin die when his tractor he was under working on fell on him.

I also remember an episode of garage squad that they did for a guys chevy dually, the owner was in a wheelchair for life from a vehicle he was working under falling on him.

All the reasons you cited and more are why I don't buy anything Made in China or Not Made in USA from USA Materials & Resources by Americans. Unless it's something I have to have and there's neither a new or used 100% Made in USA option available.

Generally, I've found the best non made in usa products come from europe particularly germany, poland, england and the worst from asia, the middle east, india, mexico & south america.

In the case of jackstands if you can't find new or used Made in USA one's and you're not able to fab some up, pay an American fabricator to start making them for you to market, bet you'd sell a bunch on this site alone. Buying, Selling and Making 100% Made in USA Products from 100% USA Materials & Resources by Americans is how we #MakeAmericaGreatAgain

I'm a jackstand customer if one of our ck5 fabricators wants to add jackstands to their line.

Also about two years ago I bought these wheel lift stands from Bill at my lift stand they're rated at nearly double the weight of a k5 blazer and they work great.
I bought them initially because I needed & wanted non hydraulic wheel lift stands to put sub frame connectors on my sons 3rd gen camaro, they did the job and I've also had my k5 on them as well.
AND they're 100% Made in USA from 100% USA Materials & Resources.
I'm sure they'll out live me.

Looks like not anymore. An unfortunate partner name nearly everyone in the world is familiar with now. :doah:

Just noticed that, I emailed Bill about that I'm like WTF Bill the main selling point for me was they were 100% made in usa from 100% usa materials by an american! bill personally made mine.
I'm like Wuhan China Bill WTF?

Edit: Added Pictures of My Made In USA Lift Stands I bought from Bill before he ruined his product quality, trustworthyness, and gave up any protection of his U.S. Patent & Intellectual Property & started having his stands Made In China.

I watched that video above, then went and checked mine. They look like the good ones. Deep teeth, near total engagement, and way to tight to wiggle and fall like the others. But they have the recalled part number. So I'll probably still take em in.

I've related the story here about the time I was delivering paint from an auto parts.body supply store I worked at to a local body shop--when I arrived at the shop, there was a fire truck, several police cruisers and an ambulance there-.

-I had to park a hundred feet down the street, and as I approached the parking lot of the shop,I saw a car that had either fallen off a jack or rolled off it,and landed on the unlucky employee who was under it working on it..a stream of blood was oozing out from under the car,and it had no wheels on it,so it landed right on the frame rails..

A cop blocked my path and shooed me away, saying "He's DEAD,you don't want to see this!--go stand way back while we get his body out of there"...
I went beside the building and only peeked around the corner ,several of the employees were there ,bawling their eyes out..one threw up too..can't say I almost didn't too, when he started heaving--and when I saw them pull the guy out from under the car--his head was crushed almost flat, and he was covered with blood......eck16.gif

I later learned the guy under the car was the car's owner,he was trying to weld a muffler onto it after getting a ticket that morning for loud exhaust..the cop that cited him was one of the ones at the scene too--he must have felt like :poo:..
After witnessing that scene ,I was very anxious about getting under a vehicle on stands,or even a car lift at a shop..

When I worked at the junkyard,we didn't have but one pair of jack stands and they were not good ones, they were the cheap K-Mart type you see that look like they were made from thin sheet metal..probably found in the trunk of some junk car..we had several home made stands we trusted much more..

We often had more than one car up on "stands",but we preferred to use car rims for jack stands,we'd stack smaller rims on larger ones--like a 15" rim at the bottom, then a 14",and a 13"...we tack welded them together so they couldn't slip around ,and we used to stack them 3-4 feet high and plop a car on them with the fork loader..then we were not afraid to work under them...
We didn't trust the loader either, its hydraulic cylinders leaked some, and would let them droop until a car could slide off the forks, and we had a few cars do a back flip when we torched out the rear axle or front suspension..I often had to sit in the cab and keep lifting up on the fork control when a heavy car made them droop more rapidly while a co-worker cut parts off..

We need to get back to making things here in America--and good things, not cheap crap that can kill people..Some things made here are inferior junk too..

I have nothing against China stuff really,I own a lot of tools and other items made there that have been perfectly satisfactory ,but we shouldn't be relying ONLY on China to stock our stores shelves with items.
I feel one store like Harbor Freight to buy "inexpensive" tools and goods from that are made there for the backyard mechanic or homeowner is fine--but not EVERY dam store in America..

And most of all we should make our own prescription drugs, and FOOD shouldn't be imported from,or sent to China and processed and returned here..that only takes jobs away and leaves us wide open as far as terrorism--not too hard to make a batch of "bad antibiotics" or taint the food supply really..
The fact that is where the virus started, then they bought up all the PPE world wide to sell back to us at a healthy profit shows they aren't looking out for our best interests..What's next, them creating a vaccine ?--will you be willing to trust it ?..

The people of China are no different than us really--but we seem to forget their government is still red communist and they aren't really our "friends"..especially since 2020 came along..

I would not doubt the virus is "payback" for Trump making them pay tarriffs and reducing our dependency on their products..we need to be self sufficient and not under any countries thumb, and so vulnerable,it never should have been allowed to get to this point..

That's exactly what DIY4x was doing, but the BA38 page has been dropped. I don't know the reason, but assume the higher cost of fabrication vs factory cast/stamped parts kept sales rather low (they were $325/pair).

However, they can build pretty much whatever you want and if contacted would probably whip up a set, even customized to your requirements.

Returned mine over the weekend. Got a gift card and a receipt, that's about it. The cashier was real nice, told me to keep the receipt on hand so that he could guarantee I get the same price on a replacement set once they come in. He didn't think they would come in for a week or two.

You guys shoulda seen the piles of returned jack stands near the register. Holy hell it was huge. A buddy of mine told me that he learned in a business class that companies sometimes choose to release things that have a high risk of recall because it works out to be the right financial decision. The cost of the possible recall is "acceptable" and they still choose to release the product. That was pretty nuts to hear but I guess it's not surprising. I don't know if that's 100% true it's just something he mentioned when we were talking about it.

It is true.
They count on some people not returning it so they get away with the sale.
Same thing with long term warranties with low quality products.
Most people just go get another one.

I've looked mine over. And although they have the recall number, they do not have the features I've seen in the videos about them.
So I'm just not messing with the recall.
Mine have have good deep grooves, full engagement, and no wiggle room in the sliding area. :dunno:.

Some of the more expensive ones I've looked at since seem cheesier built to me.

I got an email from China freight and it looks like if you have ANY jackstands you can return them.

I myself have a set of the orange 6 ton one I bought literally the first time I ever was in a Chinese freight and didn't quite understand the junk they pedaled.
But I have used them under a ton of trucks over the last 15+ years.
I do wonder if they would return those or not.

I have thrown away a dozen of these.
I still have a dozen and they work fine.
I am not returning anything.
No time to waste for this

No matter what the product is, I do whatever I can to find the best 100% Made In Usa Products, from 100% Usa Materials & Resources by Americans for the best price, quite often that means paying more; I accept that.

Cost is not the deciding factor for me.

In addition, I make a habbit of writing once great All American Product makers who've sold out American Workers for lower quality, cheaper products all or in part from China and elsewhere and rebranding with labels like "Made In USA, from global resources & materials"...
And conveying my dissapointment and desire for all american products again and for them to return to what made them great companies to begin with... All American Made Products, By Americans From All American Resources & Materials... It Matters and we've noticed the difference.
There was a time when Harley-Davidson even made their own nuts, bolts, screws in house, they did it all, which is why when the great depression hit There were 200+ American Motorcycle Manufacturers and after the great depression there was two Harley-Davidson & Indian. When Indian started farming stuff out in the 50's the original Indian M/C company shut it's doors.

Companies I've wrote thus far include Craftsman, DeWalt, Mayhew, Snap-On, Harley-Davidson, GM, Ford, Dodge

How'd we get in a 100% PPE Product Dependancy Position on the same CCP of China screwing us 8 ways to sunday on everything you can think of? notwithstanding being the harbinger of a Chinese Plagues, the current one that's destroyed the global economy.

What a load of shiite...

IF there is anyway I can keep my money from going into the Bank Account of the CCP of China and or other foreign governments, foreign citizens I do so.

It's my small part in keeping Americans Employed, and trying to Make America Great Again, every little bit helps.

America is unique, we can be a fricken Island; IF we want to be, the rest of the world needs us & our money more then we need their Made in China bs from recycled hyundai's & other foreign made crapola.

These companies farming stuff out of the USA don't see the long term consequences of doing so; it's the road to their own demise and American dependancy on foreign made products based on the theft of their intellectual Property, Patents, by the very countries they farmed their products out to. It should be painfully clear that there is zero consequences for China & other countries ripping us off, notwithstanding what a abysmal lie NAFTA & every other stinking free trade agreement has been to date.

Yes Trump's Tarrif's are a step in the right direction, but it's not enough and the only way We The People can turn the Titanic is to Invest In America & Buy American.
