Have a look before it's wrecked

Well, the springs were taken apart and shims were added between each leaf. What it does is spread the leaf pack apart so just the tips are contacting. Maybe I will go out in the garage and snap a pic.

Here are some pics of the front and rear leaf packs. I know I have too many degree shims in the back. They are through bolted and I haven't redone the spring perches yet. Plus, I might do a shackle flip.

Damn thats a sharp lookin rig man. Love the paint job, I would of gone flat black with the hood but that gloss still looks great.

Believe it or not, the clear has a flatener in it. It looks shinier on the pictures than it is. I wanted it to not glare, but flat black looks crappy after a while.

When I took my springs down to my local spring shop (KC Spring) I had them all painted up and those spacers installed (stock 64"s). That was the first thing the shop owner noticed. He said that those spacers will cause excessive stress on each leaf and are the main cause of stock springs breaking.

Anyway, nice rig. Looks close to what I am builing now.:waytogo:

As thick as the OE 64's are I doubt it would be a problem. GM didn't think it would be, or they would not have used them. Plus, the springs ride better with those shims installed.

I've never seen factory springs with shims between the leafs. Although, if they don't create excessive stress points, it's something I might think about doing.

heck yeah it is...that is one beautiful rig man. Oh and those shims are a great idea...never thought of doing that before...

Ive heard of using the shims before. I think it may have been in a fourwheeler tech article about leaf springs but dont remember for sure.

Never heard of them causing springs to break though. I would love the extra flex but dont wanna weaken my spring pack.
