Yeah, in my experience, I don't think it'd get it done. I've never tried it though either. I guess with the ignition timing wrong you can get your pipes red hot too.In which case, that'd probably work.
No thanks

That's what I was thinking...but I have to break-in this motor(1500-2500 rpms for 1/2 hour).Ya know I need to move mine but exhaust heat being enough to bend them doesnt sound right to me.

I know they'll get hot, but I'm not sure hot enough. Cybrfire, you've got the right Idea, but I don't have those provisions. I talked to an exaust shop that assures me they can do this, but I'm pretty leary. I have no idea what something like that would cost.
The whole deal stinks for the phone calls and research into trying to find the best set to buy so I DON'T have to go through this.
yes longtubes are better but shorties are still a huge improvement vs rough ass stock manifolds.

Ok, before anyone berates me for this being a repost, I tried to post in the appropriate thread and got no responses except for "...bend the pipes with them hot!"
Here's my dillema:
I've seen the posts before with the passenger side header that hits the lower shackle bolt and hear that you can heat them up (via engine running) and bend them to your will. I understand, IAW Hedman, that this will void the warranty. I'm ok with that. I'll probably end up doing this anyway.
What I do want to know from those of you running a BBC/SM465/NP205 combo:
1. Are you using ORD's Shackle kit? No
2. Are you using headers? Yes
3. Did you have this contact problem? No not even close.
4. Is this how you corrected it?
5. Are you using their competition style motor mounts? No
Any Part #'s for different brand headers other than Hedman's 69820 would be appreciated. Hedman was at least good enough to say they'd warranty these and work w/ me and Summit to get my cash back.
If you have done the "heat up and bend" trick with 14 gauge tubes and ceramic coating, I'd love to hear about your results.
I'd rather do the right thing and replace these with a set that fits (with people who have installed them) instead of buying a set only from looking at pictures. I'd like to have my truck running by this weekend so any info I kinda need quick.
I appeal to you Brotherhood, Help me with my dilema!

shorties are a mild improvement at best, whereas longtubes are a huge improvement... But I guess running various headers over 30 yrs hasn't taught me anything....![]()
I have these on my truck http://store.summitracing.com/partd...4294908178+400390+4294840133+115&autoview=sku
They work great and are 2" away from the shackle bolt and about 1" higher than the shackle bolt. They don't hit anywhere. I think the quality is much better than the hedman headers I had here before I decided to use these headers. I just wish I would have bought the coated ones.
I can take pics tomorrow if you are serious about buying a set.
Mike

I wanted to hear that from someone with the same set-up, that's done it and had success. Thank you!
asinine? I'll remember that one...
I'm not gonna dig up charts, you find me data supporting your claim of big gains with shorties.. I've read tons of articles over the years suggesting the opposite..
Ya sound like one of those guys that ran em in a smog mobile and tried to justify it in their head.. fine, it's a blingy tube exhaust, but it still has pretty much non-existent primaries..
stfu noob....oh yes, teacher, I'll "admit"...stfu noob....
I'll reiterate, the gains from shorty headers are so minimal, it's not worth the time, effort or cash to run em over stock... Tri'Y, long tube, absolutely worth it....

UPS...Thanks for the pics! The info helps alot!!
Wish the coated ones weren't so $$$$$$$!!!![]()
