Header Fit w/ORD Shackles!!!

There is a local guy that can do it. I haven't checked on a price yet though. I will soon.

Swallow your pride jesus christ.

How about you? heh?

Show me I'm wrong with some data... You wanna debate with me, bring it... prove me wrong.... shorties are a waste over manifolds and not worth the effort..

Other than people in here running shorties themselves trying to justify it, the informed gearheads in here will agree with me..

Its funny that I searched for 5 mins on google and although I couldnt find a chart as obvious as shorties vs longtubes vs manifolds I did read exactly what I've been arguing.

I read on every discussion/article I clicked that longtubes way out perform shorties and manifolds. Which I think we can both agree upon.

I also read that yes you are correct in some instances a manifold built with performance in mind can out perform shorties such as the case of the 80's L98 corvette and camaro 350's.

Upon further reading I also found that the general scenario with shorty headers is that they do improve over a rough manifold but as you said the gains are on the low side. I believe I read that on average its 5hp in the top end. Which if you'll read back I didnt disagree with you on them being low. I honestly didnt think that the gains were that low but I can see now I'm wrong there.

Yet in the end it still comes down to opinion. To me 5hp is worth the $100 especially to free up engine space, have a little bit of a nicer sound, and most importantly ditch the weight.

I'm sorry if I came off like an asshole or whatever but the principle to me just seems far fetched although apparently true in some cases. I can tell you one think, the car I installed shorties on certainly did benefit from having the manifolds replace. No I dont have 30years experience but thats my experience and I based my arguement off of it.

So to a point we are both wrong.

I wasn't saying there may not be a reason why someone MAY want to run shorties... vehicle config, being one reason.. damaged, corroded, cracked manifold, to retain the stock y, etc , etc...

But to invest a couple hundred dollars and the labor to swap, the modest gains don't seem worth it in an average situation... And trust me, I'm no fan of manifolds.. The other aspect is that early 70's, Cuda and Chevelle hotrod builder in me that wants the most performance I can get in a part for my money thinking thats ingrained in me.......

See I did them on my camaro because for one the stock manifolds where a horrible design, and two the true performance gains I got from the car where in the y pipe which needed a different collector design. Plus they give it all a nicer throaty sound.

I do understand what your saying though.\

 Are you guys still going at it?

Yeah from what I can gather hes a stubborn old gear head and I'm a stubborn kid :D

This is a shorter header, but not a block hugger type. They look like a long tube but end up higher than the shackle location. Hedman just called them the 4x4 version.

It hits the middle of the collector like this:

I'd think of just turning the bolt around but I've got ORD's shackle kit on it and the greasable bolts(Zerk fitting in the head). The springs are stock length with a 6" lift.

I'm looking for brands and part #'s of headers that were installed with a BBC, ORD's engine mounts and shackle kits that don't hit.

I'm also trying to figure out if anyone here has heated their headers, either by torch or by running their engine, and bent them to not come into contact with the lower bolt.

I tried to get this info from the original header post but got few replies. I'd have to look it up, but someone suggested running the engine and bending it with a 2 x 4 but offhand I can't remember who. I guess I'll have to see who that was and what post it was under and PM them.
i have a 2 inch longer shackle on mine and they dont hit with the headers i got. they are the flowtech headers.

Dude I gained like 100 hp from my shorties! I don't know what you guys are talking about! Maybe it's because I painted them with POR 15 inside and out! <<LMAO>>

Rob and chul,

Do you have big block headers or small block?

He is looking for big block advice.
