Heaph's Build Thread - Built not Bought

Its not like that stuff is set in stone. Metal can be cut and rewelded so adjustments can be made. I'm positive that others have put on shackels and had to adjust them.

Hard to figure that out when its just a frame with no weight on it.

Looks good though man. Hope those new parts work out for ya.

I definitely agree that there is very little weight on those springs. I hope the body has enough weight to push those shackles back where they should be. I have had to do a lot of adjusting with my spring mounts to get the shackle where I wanted it but with a boxed frame like that, it makes things 10x more difficult. Good luck, I hope those springs settle in and the angle is perfect! :D

I know the shackles are messed up. MAybe CDA wants to hand me beers while I fix them. MER!!GUY.

Thanks for the positive feedback/constructive criticism though guys.

your rocks must be diffrent than my buddies his tie rod is on the front in the normal location...here is a pic...

He hasnt modified it somehow? His also looks somewhat centered while my is offset left. WEird??

BTW pleasure doing bizness with currank5. ..as usual.

its almost the same its just like yours is backwards (i know its not)...mabye its just a diffrent year rock where they did some diffrent stuff...what kind of steering and brakes are you running...we are sorting all that out right now on his...

Full Hydro. I think the pinion brake will hit the spring...unless I cheat it to the left??? Maybe I'll go Discs at the wheels??? or atleast in front.

I think you can flip the knuckles from left to right and make the tie rod go up front. The pinion section of the rockwell axles can be rotated to center, just gots ta flip it around IIRC.

That makes total sense! I think Ill prolly just leave it where it is and wheel disc it.

Disk at wheels is a must if you're hitting the street at all. pinion brakes are way cheaper but you'll fry them if you drive more than 20mph since the disk would be turning almost 7 times faster than the tires. :doah:

yeah but you will shell out the $$$ for wheel brakes...my buddy bought his pinion brakes from chucks trucks here is a link if you havnt checked them out before http://www.chuckstrucks.net/parts.html

I won't get in a pissing match with you about it but I really don't think pinion brakes are safe, he plans on driving this on the street. Expensive or not, wheel brakes are safer.

i totally agree with you...around here you cant even drive on the street with rocks so the street thing is out the question....what ever you do dont put brakes up by the transfer case as soon as you break a driveshaft you have no brakes...

and if you have pinion brakes you'd better run a spool or at least a locker so you have braking power at BOTH wheels :wink1:
