I'm not leaking oil from the head gasket.. I'm leaking coolant did I write oil? I do know my valve covers are leaking oil though which is getting fixed.
well today I got the TB off, and pass side valve cover, ac is in the way of the right one, and I cannot get 2 of the bolts off to get it out, so postponing until tomorrow when i have light to try again...
The bolts that hold the air conditioning compressor to the bracket have one side of the bolt head ground flat to allow them to pull out past the pulley.
should I completely rebuild this thing? or just clean it up as much as possible, and run it ( I know the correct answer is to rebuild but funds aren't that great)
Pic not displaying large for me, but is that "carbonized" (I made that up) oil?
Had a 305 like that once, if it were me to do again, I'd use a shop vac and get out what I could, try to keep junk away from the lifters and drainbacks, and hit the big stuff with a screwdriver. AFAIK that 305 lasted longer than the truck did. I ran it hard, and sold it to a guy that ran it harder, the motor made it years before he rolled the truck.
Get too crazy and you'll just send tiny pieces of carbon through the engine. Leave the stuff that isn't likely to break off, and keep up on the oil changes. Look at it this way...that hasn't caused any apparent problems yet, right? So no reason to get it shiny. The motor has obviously been abused, so I'd be more concerned about a replacement at some point, than making this one shine. Obviously some questionable lubrication going on in that motor in the past.
makes sense I guess, but I can definatley see the "carbonized oil" already inside places it shouldn't be, but ill just clean up what I can and hope for the best.
I still need to take the heads off (on the right side where its all clean is where my head gasket leaked.. well its bout midnight 15 here so I should probably get some rest
but tempted to keep at it..
