Heavy Half 91 Burb build

Bummer, I went to up to Canyon Ferry this week for a little vaca and to pick up some axles a guy on Craigs list was selling. After getting confirmation from him twice he would hold them for me, I call him when I get there and he sold the rear 14bff to his friend  You have to love pulling an empty trailer 500 miles round trip for no reason.

There was a guy on Craigslist here in Billings a few days ago selling a 14 bolt FF with 4.10's out of a 74 3/4 ton for $100.

And now that I try to copy/paste it for you, it looks like the guy pulled the ad......sorry guy. I'll keep an eye open for one for you too.

Yea Snuff, I saw that one too. I think I will just hold out for another matched set or try to find a complete, cheap 3/4 ton to rob parts off of.

Have you checked out Johnson's A1 way out on Grand past 60th St.West? I called them a few months back for the price on a set of 3/4 ton axles and they quoted me $300 or so, (I can't remember exactly) for a Dana 44 and 14 bolt FF.

The guy said he only had one 3/4 ton out there at the time and naturally my funds had to go somewhere else.

Not much, I replaced a leaky power steering hose and bleed the piss out of it trying to get it to stop whining with no luck, I might need a new pump. I've had too much on my plate lately, my daughter just started going through chemo last month so we have made 2 trips to Salt Lake in 3 weeks.

Hoping things will slow down soon so I can get back to work on it.

Good lord, I'm sorry to hear about your daughter. I have an almost 3 year old, (she'll be 3 on 11-25), and the thought of a sick kid just hits hard.

Prayers sent your way. And if you need help with your Sub once you get going on it again, let me know.

what he said...^^^

Thanks guys, thank god its not cancer. She has a benign tumor on her optic nerve. It has slowly been making her vision worse over the last 2 years so the doc's decided to give her chemo therapy to try and shrink it. They say it has a high success rate and she has been doing really well. Chemo is alot harder on adults than kids.

**** man, glad it's not cancer. Hope everything works out for you.

Can someone please school me on vortec heads on a tbi? I know I will need a new intake manifold and possibly exhaust or headers IDK. I found a set on Craigs list here and he wants $150, will I need a new cam too? Thanks guys, I'll find out what year they are out of too.

I also found a 14bff out of a 73 with 4.10's for $125. Thinking of picking up one or the other and put it in storage until I can afford everything I want to do to the burb.

Go for the heads...go for the heads...go for the heads :waytogo:

I say this because if you go for the heads, I can get the axle

Ha ha, I just talked to they guy with the heads and they sound pretty good. They are off a 98 350. He said he knows a guy in town that can drill and tap a regular 4 barrel intake and then I would need the TBI adapter plate. That sounds like a cheaper route but opinions please or past experience would be better. I think the GM TBI/Vortec intake is around $300?

They make an adapter to put the TBI on a normal 4 barrel intake.

That is the route I would go.

Get a Vortec manifold...the intake ports are larger, you lose power using a modified manifold. article

Also, check valve lift carefully...factory vortec heads are good for about .420 valve lft, iirc...article

Don't get me wrong, these heads rock...best bang for the buck out there. Just check so you don't break anything!

I have a set on my crate motor...

Thanks 62 for the links! I'm trying research this the best I can before I buy the heads. I will be getting one thing at a time so it might take a while. Here is what I think I need now: Heads, Vortec intake and possibly a drivers side exhaust manifold off a 96 up truck and burn a new chip?

I tore down a 307 about 15 years ago, that is a close as I have come to anything like this so pardon my noobness and the questions but I still have no idea if I will need a new cam. I'm sure it would help but that is too much for me right now. How do I know if I have more than .420 valve lift?

There has to be a good wright up on CK5 somewhere, a step by step would be great so I know what I'm getting into.

Is this for the sub in your sig line?

Is the motor stock?

What is your goal here?

I do know you will need the drivers exhaust manifold if you plan on using the EGR...

If it's for your sub, I would get a performer cam and manifold. It would really wake up with those heads.

Sweet project you have going here. Ill be keeping track of this one for sure. did you wind up getting the vortec heads?

Hope your daughter makes a full recovery. Sick kids are the worst thing in the world.
