So, decided to take out my th350 transmission ,and have the good parts swapped into a new case, because the case I have now is jacked. So its going to boil down to a few warn parts and a torque converter that will be replaced, the trans i have in it now works fine, it just has a broken case. My setup is as follows. 350 /th350 205,dana 60 w 456s 14 bolts. W 456s and a Detroit, on 38 tsl tires. I dont know where to start. Also when I have the trans gone through, should I install a shift kit, or will that tear up u joints? Thanks all!

OR , should I just get an aftermarket jobber and throw that in, may be cheaper?

It would not be a bad idea to have the trans modified for a better quality shift withreduced overlap between gears. This will give you a more positive shift without the excessive firmness that can be damaging. A good kit for this would be the small TransGo or Superior kits, usually around $30. If you have a stock style engine, running a 400 style converter instead of the 350 style will net you added fluid capacity, a bit lower stall speed and cooler running temps. These will interchange with no problem just be sure the flexplate has provision for the larger 400 bolt pattern, most do.

If you have a Transtar warehouse these are their part numbers for the TransGo kit and Superior kit:
TransGo T44165
Superior S44165

They sell a 400 converter under part number GM3
