help getting 87 454 tbi to stat/run

Hi,

Of course I am new to Fuel injection and need some help. I recently bought an 87 chevy crew for a nice project, (more to come) It started and drove fine with the owners previous hack jobs, but I went out to move it into the shop recently to get it hacked apart and it wouldn't start.

1. the previous owner runs an intake fuel pump from the battery. (going with new fuel cell so I will fix that. I don't know what all else the previous owner did)
2. truck is big block 454 with the air tube crap...

So things I checked to get it to start.

1. tank has fuel
2. fuel pump is running
3. When I tried starting fluid the truck barely started for 1/2 second and then stopped. Then nothing after that upon numerous attempts.
4. when I hooked up a timing light i got flashing of about 1 per second while it was turning over.

Any ideas on where to start? what to check?

Might be an ignition issue. Either distributor module or pick up coil.

Check if the fuel pump primes when you turn the ignition on. If it does, then the ignition sounds like the culprit.

finally got some time to work on the truck today. Is the only fuel pump in the tank? Or is there a second pump on the passenger side frame rail?

If it's been hacked up, hard to tell.

Stock, the pump is in the tank, the filter is the round cannister usually mounted to a frame rail.

Sounds like you've got fuel and spark, at least sometimes.

I suspect ignition too. I believe on TBI you can simply look into the unit while it's cranking and see if fuel is being injected. Since it won't even crank on starting fluid now, it points to ignition. Odd if you are getting spark on the timing light, and it ran before and nothings been changed.

thanks for the help everyone, It turned out to be ECM fuse. (I like and hate simple things at the same time.)
