Help me choose the q jets replacement...

That carb is amazing, from personal experience. I just pulled one off of my vortec 350 because I went to a big block. I am selling it right now in the classifieds section, check it out:-)
 
I run the offroad carb and have been very happy with it. easy to work with and hasnt stalled on me.

Long of the short is, it's in dire need of rebuilding, and I'll tell you now I don't have the patience to do it. IIRC, the thing sat for 3 years before I snagged it from phreddei (Stephen) I'm not that knowledgeable as far as carbs go, but I know there's something wrong with the choke, as it struggles to start when cold (not actually cold, but if it's been sitting), the secondaries stick once in a while, and I'm pretty sure the overall condition of it is what's leading us (two guys that have little to no knowledge when it comes to this) to believe we're still having timing issues....I also never knew anyone that has had any luck with the q jet. Even my buddys dads plow truck, they had issues with it, tossed an edelbrock on, and it was running beautifully.:crazy:

Selling the Jet Performance q jet I had (before I bought the propane, and decided not to run that :rolleyes: ) is starting to bite me in the ass....

If this thing can be made to perform better than an out of box Edelbrock...someone fill me in! :D
 
EFI > Propane > Quadrajet > Holley > Carter AFB/Edelbrock

I would say get the edelbrock 795 cfm q-jet.

Thres a reason q-jets are called hillbilly fool injection. They are the best carb for off road period. The reason people have a problem with them is they are not often rebuilt right and people dont usually know how to tune them.

I grew up po' so I had to learns em myself cuz I couldnt afford anything else.

OR rebuild the one you have and get some advice on here there hs to be more than just myself that knows q-jets.
 
Just looking for the most reliable way to go. Right now it's a chore to get this thing started, so I know this thing needs to be rebuilt, it's just if I spend the time to do it, would I have been better off picking up something else?
 
Rebuild the Q-jet. They are a great Carb. Not that hard to rebuild and the problems they do have are generally easy to fix. The hardest thing to fix would be if the primary throttle shaft is worn. Drill press, a bushing kit, and some time to fix that issue.

Another thing is, wouldn't the qjet (at 750 CFM) be kind of 'too much' carb? Keep in mind, I know next to nothing when it comes to this stuff....

It's a spread bore carburetor. The primaries are tiny, and the secondaries are vacuum (kind of). They will only open as much as the engine requires. They used 750 Q-jets on 4.3's.

Why are you against TBI? I thought that was the biggest single mistake in your entire build thread. There are not that many wires, and you said you were looking for reliable.

At this point, it's more just because of $$ and time...
 
You could probably get an entire TBI setup at a junkyard for less than a new carb.

Why did you ever get rid of the TBI you had???

I'm not really sure, to be honest. The wiring was a mess to begin with, and when I pulled the motor out of it, I didn't get the throttle body pulled in time before it was scrapped....Still though, I could've saved it...but I was in such a rush to get the whole body of the frame, that I just started cutting wires...:crazy:
