Help me INSTALL a big block...Bought a 468!

Since it was for a boat, ask if it is standard or reverse rotation motor. Iirc, the only difference in a reverse rotation motor is the camshaft but you'd still need to know.

Also, if that is a large lift cam (like .714) then you will probably need to pull the heads and swap valve springs in order to run a cam more suitable to your needs.

I imagine it's std rotation just because we've talked about it going in my truck but I'll ask. Good call.

As far as camshaft, I emailed him to ask for a part number for it. I've talked to him 3 times today so I figured I could wait for a return email :D

full on motortard....go for it Sean, I'm riding shotgun man!

Intake runners are on the smaller side I think 189. I wanted more torque from the motor. The cam is. crane cams the 741 marine for a bbc. 359 610 intake 372 632 exhaust 114 lsa. It's a hydraulic roller.

Sounds like it's gonna be a pretty good fit:D

I guess it depends on what the @.050 is but I am betting unless you have a 200 crawl ratio it will be about 2 sizes too big. Think 224-230 @ .050 duration.

I'll be honest here, I have no idea what any of these figures relate to. Also, no clue what my crawl ratio is, but I can tell you at the moment I have a 465/205 with 4.56's in the axles and I'm sitting on 39.5" TSL's. I'd love an atlas 4 at some point down the road, but it aint gonna be soon... To be fair though, I'm never going to wheel this truck super hard. No rocks for me. I'll get a beater or build a buggy to do that kind of stuff when the time comes. If you think I should re cam it for 90% street use (simply because there are no trails around here and I don't even live in the same country as the truck most of the time) I'll look into it. But if I can run it like it is I think I'd be happy to do it.

Cams are easy to swap. Try it. I bet it is pretty rowdy. Your crawl ratio sucks but if is is mostly a mall crawler it will be fine (mine is worse currently but the BBC helps it). The @ .050 duration is the the duration measured at .050 lift. It is a standard so you can compare cams better than the "advertised" duration which I am guessing you listed or that is a promod cam.

I think I'll see if we can start it on Tuesday. I think the engine builder is meeting us too, so I can ask him some more detailed questions too. Worst case scenario, I put it in the truck as is and you guys can say you told me so when I swap it out down the road:haha::haha:

I hope you hate it, and sell it too me cheap.

LOL. We'll see what happens. I just hope he doesn't sell it before I can get up there Tuesday, and it is as good as it sounds. Then I can order some parts and join the dark side:pimp:

Put it in and run it. If it lacks bottom end then do a cam swap. But me thinks that once you opener her up once, you won't be spending much time below the red line :saweet: burnout

I'm a little worried that an nv4500 is going to be in my sights next because of this :doah: Maybe one day I can leave well enough alone :haha:

haven't really read the replies.. but just a couple points from a marine guy... it's very, very doubtful it's a reverse rotation motor.. they are very, very rare these days.. 15, 20 yr's ago, not so much... just a cam but worth asking...

btw, those cams can be worth some coin... :pimp:

and I would venture to guess the cam is pretty damn lopey, going in a blower boat... carbing it wouldn't be much of an issue other than standard big cam issues.. but getting EFI to run right , will be a bit trickier obviously ..

but as mentioned a cam swap is pretty minor in the scope of BB parts $$$'s..

Thanks for checking in Paul. I'm hoping to fire it up and find out how it idles. I may swap it out though, we'll see I guess. Plan is to keep it carbed for now though, so maybe I'll just see how it goes.

Just do it all at once, no need to tear into it twice ;)

Also seriously look into getting a short throw for it too like i have. Such a tight shift!
