Help me spend $1800.....

MTR's are far superior to Pro Comps in the rocks. TheRobZilla used to run ProComp MT's in the rocks and hated them. He now runs MTR's and loves them like I do. I wouldn't mind having 37's but I don't need them to get every place I am willing to put the truck.

MTR's are a damn good tire in the rocks. And anybody who says you have to have big tires and alot of fancy stuff to take hard lines rock crawling needs to come out to AZ.

Here is a pic from the last outing we did. 35" MTR's and nothing to special under the truck. I drove out of this flop without the winch cable. I needed a couple hands to keep it somewhat upright but I did drive out under my own power.

TSL's do damn good in the mud, and are pretty good in the rocks too. For a non-DD truck Swampers are a pretty good rock tire with some grooving.

Fair enough, and nice pic...

I was talking more xterrain pro-comps, I don't care for the MT's...

I have a couple of buddies that run the XT's , and lovem... I guess I am really just being a parrot anyway... I have no driving experience in the rocks...yet..

I love my TSL's (well, LOVED them, my truck burnt today) but I am a mud guy, no great rocks close to me, but plenty of mud...lol.

Thanks, I learn something every day.

Thanks for the compliment. Sorry to hear your truck went up in flames. My truck has caught fire a couple times but I got it extinguished everytime before it did any bigtime damage. Its a scary thing and sucks when it happens.

the ProComp MT is pretty much the same as a BFG MT... not the best in rocks, but not terrible either. Do a search over on pirate on X-terrains though. They run the 40" ones on one of the Red Bull sponsored rock buggies and they do a heck of a job on rocks. Of course, the 37 and 40 are different than the smaller x-terrains... but the bigger ones can definitely "rock".

Rocks=Pro Comp in my book

Wow, you must be brand biased or have never been to a rock crawling competition. I don'd care what Dustin runs, there is only one tire that is king of the rock pile.......and that tire is called the BFG Krawler.

MTR's or Krawlers. That's the tires of choice in the rocks. Now for us poor folk, or at least until the Krawler comes down if price, and I mean WAYYYYYY down in price, the MTR is the tire of choice. Gotta watch the side walls, but it's a great tire for the rocks.

I have been running them for every bit of 3 years and woujld only trade them in for Krawlers and or 37" or 40" MTR's.

Just my opinion.

Rob

yeah, krawlers are great... if you happen to have sponsors or be a lottery winner. This is sorta like a discussion about which is better... a mustang or a camero and some guy saying "oh yeah, my mclearan F1 kicks both their asses!". It does... to bad its outrageously priced at the same time. When the 40" krawler costs $250, I'll be impressed.

j

I agree, I will be impressed when a 40" Krawler is less than $300..

I with you. Would love to own some, but unless someone has the directions to the money tree, I will have to stick with my 35" MTR's.

I never really got an answer back about what I should get for making my bumpers. My Dad has a hydraulic bender up to 2" die and is a hell of a fabricator. Just hasn't really done bumpers before. I have been collecting all sorts of pictures from here to use as a guide when building mine. From what I have read in searches is that 1.5" .120 HREW is good tube? I don't even know what the hell HREW stands for but it seemed like the general concensus in one thread. Any guesses on how much steel to order? Flat stock, size, tube? I am going to take my rig to Utah when I get home and do all the work at my dad's so it would help a great deal to know this info ahead of time to save on how many trips I have to take. He can get steel delivered to his house through his company so I can order it and have it delivered:) Don't be jealous:D

BTW 6 more weeks in Iraq!!!

For bumpers on a K5 I would use 2" tube. It is stronger and will hold up to the weight of a K5 better. It will also look better since a K5 is big and 2" tube is bigger.

Looking for some info on the reply above. A D60 is not my number one priority right now.

HREW - Hot Rolled Electric Welded
DOM - Drawn Over Mandrel

Cool, I learned somethin' today:grin: Thanks Brian.

Anyone care to take a guess as to what thickness and how much tube to order for front and rear bumpers?:ears:  :1zhelp:

That will depend on what you want your bumpers to look like. Find pics of what you like and start making some measurements

:o

Im not even sure what to say to that... its hard to comprehend the D60 not being a priority for someone without one, unless they plan on portals or rockies... :cool1:

I'd rather have a beat up, open D60 with crappy gears than an ARB'd 4.88 trick shafted D44 or 10-bolt... but maybe thats just me.

Tell me how you really feel:D

I guess I will just continue to be a huge poser with my D44. But it has all the upgrades on it that you can get. I would rather spend money somewhere else, i.e. the little things. More body protection, locker in the rear, extended shock mounts, get my winch hooked up, etc.

I could enhance my rig 10 folds for the cost of a D60. It would be like taking a step backwards at this point in the build up (No more crossover-ARB). Plus I just bought 35" Mtr's about 6 months ago. I don't need new tires nor will I buy new ones when these are in such good shape.

I feel after I get all the smaller upgrades that need to be done the time for a Dana 60 will come. I am Married and have 2 children (1 income E-5) so the cash flow isn't always coming in.

For some people a D60 is not needed. I personally have no plans to put a D60 in my rig. I could care less about it to tell you the truth. If one came along for a sweet price I would by it but otherwise my 10 bolt is just fine. Some people need a D60, alot of people (some who believe the do) don't need a D60.

Life and four wheeling do not revolve around a D60, at least not for me. Would it be cool to have one, sure. Do I have to have one no.
