Have a very old Warn winch that I need to find a remote for. Anybody know where I can find one? I appreciate any help. It a Warn, part number 8403, serial number 189927, and it's a 4 pin connector. Thanks again......

You might contact warn they may be able to at least get you a wiring schematic for it. That would give you the option to wire another manufacturers remote if you had to.

You have to be careful with Warn. They changed from a 4 pin to a 5 pin a few years back, and the two controllers are not directly compatible.
Pretty sure that the older Warns were wired like post 2 here.

I have been running winches over 40 years, and used to help build a line of winches. And for most of that time, I never had a remote. All my winches used mounted switches in the cab.
If I needed an easier way to wind up the cable by myself, I would add a switch under the hood.

Check the socket on the winch you have. Odds are it only has three wires. If so, then its wired like the schematics on that link.
The newer Warns switch the ground to the solenoids at the same time as the hot lead. Not sure why, I assume that its supposed to be an additional safety in case the hot lead stuck on.

You could use the newer switch, just don't use the switched ground for anything. Of course, the plug would not fit.
On the store-bought winch I got that used a plug-in remote only, I added the cab switch and only used the remote to wind up the cable.
