That's rediculous... you could get one for like $500... make one for less!
Interesting... the T58 is a turboshaft engine; not designed to produce any worthwhile thrust. Main job is powering helicopters, primarily the Sikorsky H-3/S-61, and the Boeing-Vertol H-46. Also used in some ground and marine applications to power generators and pumps.
Hence why they work well in a 1000lb car... not much thrust needed to move it 100mph...
Just realized what I left out of my original post... .
If you look at the pics, there's no PTO shaft - the T58's PTO shaft comes out of the exhaust end of the engine. So someone actually spent the time (lots) & money (LOTS) to make a new turbine section for this engine that doesn't incorporate a free-power turbine.
Hey! That's what E-One uses in the cabs of their "Protector" model firetrucks. Haven't seen on fail yet.....nor have I tested both of ours.
