I know, a VW Jetta is not a Truck, but it does get great gas mileage as my daily driver.
I was hoping that someone here could shed some insight on a problem that I am having with the A/C. My A/C only works when the blower is on the low setting. Turning the blower up past low will kick off the compressor switch and everything stops cooling. It works great when on low. I filled it with new refridgerant earlier this sumer and it has worked fine since then, until recently.

How long does it take?
If it takes a few minutes, then it may be a head pressure problem. Either a slight overcharge, a stoppage, or a cooling fan that is not kicking on.

If it stops instantly, then it is probably an electrical problem. Most of those systems have a dedicated computer to control things. It could be glitched.

Also, since I am not there, I have to ask this even though it may sound dumb.
Are you sure the system is stopping?
If you turn it up above low, and it goes dead, you need to look and see if the compressor stops.
It may be just a bad fan resistor, switch, or controller that does not let the fan run any faster. The main system may be still working.

What year and trim level is it?
If it is a MK I - MK IV and not a GLX (in other words not a "Climatronic" unit) than it sounds like an overcharged system or stoppage like mentioned above.
I'd have to check the Bently manual but I'm all but positive the non climatronic units are totally non computerized systems.

It is a 97 GL. I will get some gauges from a frind and check the high and low side pressures. When you turn the control from low to high, the air coming out of the vent is no longer cool, hot even. I am pretty sure that the compressor is turning off.

On another note, your red K5 looks awesome! I am trying to restore my dads 73 and when I am done I want it to look like yours. What tires/rims are you running and how much lift? Anything special under the hood? Great looking rig!

Cool so its a MkIII. They don't have computors so It may be a physical electrical issue. My first VW was a 96 Jetta.

This is my current VW toy

Thanks for the compliments on the truck man. It is on 16" Eagle Alloys with 33" BFG Mud Terrain KM's with a 4" spring lift.
I'm going to 35's next time round and I think I'll be done with the shoes at that point. Overall I'm really happy with this set up even on the 33's. I really can't take credit for it though as the previous owner was the one who did the lift.

And it just so happens as of this week it has a fresh 350 in it. 4BM, Edelbrock 650, Weiand Intake and Thorley Headers. That is all from the previous owner too except the engine which blew up so I replaced it with a reman.
