I'd like to weld up a few bolt holes in the frame 7/16-1/2" range. I'm looking for mild steel plain stock. Anyone know where I can source some? Otherwise I'll have to get creative with some small hole saws on stock to make my own.

For holes that small get yourself a piece of brass and either have someone hold it in place or clamp it if you can and just "fill" the hole with weld. It won't take much with holes that small.

How about washers?

If the holes were just a bit smaller, you could put a piece of copper on the back side, and then just weld the holes closed.

But yeah, a washer for a #10 or 1/4" bolt or so should have the OD you're looking for, and the center hole is easy enough to fill in.

She's glad to hear that..... :wink1:

I just did this... filled and smoothed about 50 holes in the frame... plugweld pliers come in handy..

Looks like a great tool where there is access. For the middle of the C section I'm not certain they would reach. Sounds like I'll find some mild steel washers or a block of copper for the rosette welds.

why not just weld a small piece of flat steel to the back side. Does it matter if there is a flat thin piece of steel on the inside?

I saw those pliers on a recent episode of Gearz.

At the time, I remember telling myself that would be a nice extra tool to have around.

:usaflag:

I've had a set for years.. they used to make a widethroat bodyclamp one years ago that got stolen from me.. but I since think they've discontinued them, haven't seen em.... handy tool....

I really, really needed to talk myself out of sectioning and smoothing the front rail section of the frame at the stock shock-mounts... I did refrain, but it was hard... :wink1:

I picked up a magnetic plug weld tool and it worked like a charm :)
