I planning on using GM 1ton TREs and a piece of 1.75 DOM with a 3/8 wall for a tie rod for my 60. I need to know what size tap and what size drill bit I should use. I havn’t bought the TRE’s yet or DOM, so I’m open to suggestions. I want to make my own and not buy a kit or one from ORD.

Thanks

Couldn't you just use two right hand ends? You would have to take off the tie rod to adjust it, but that no biggy.

You can also use tube inserts. Thats what I used, my tube was 1 1/2 DOM 1/4 inch wall, but I'm sure they make them for all sizes.

I made the mother of all tierods with inserts and one ton TREs. Mine is 2inch 1/2 wall... yep two inch diameter with a one inch hole inside. I then welded in the inserts and threaded in the TREs. It should be much cheaper to go this route (minus the metal, I had it laying around) than buying taps.

here is a place to get the inserts and jam nuts.

Just get a left and a right and the jamnuts. Talk to mike and he can tell you exactly what you need.
