So my buddy wants to go wheelin soon and I haven't gone since...I can't even remember, last X mas? Anyway one thing I haven't gotten around to is flipping the rear shackle. Now I know there are kits from DIY4x and ORD. But right now, I'd rather invest the money else where. And I've got a lot of 3/8 steel lying around. So I have attached (I think) a really bad MS paint idea of my shackle flip idea. Any input on my design would be greatly appreciated.

Dont have much input on your design but another suggestion.

I buy 2wd front rear spring hangers from the junkyard for $25 a pair. Remove your old shackle hangers, position the new hangers in place, drill holes and bolt on. Ive done several shackle flips this way, cheap and simple.

2wd hanger with 7" diy4x shackles on 56" springs .

also multiple peices makes for less strength . why most kits are 2-3 peics . bends stronger.

Bottom is the same as piece one in your diagram, ties in to bottom of frame

Almost the same thing, how long is that shackle? I place on using the stock shackle and was wondering if I had to make the mounting point lower.

IIRC, the location of the hole on the hanger is the same distance down from the frame as the factory, using a 5" shackle.

I didn't have the steel to run the gussets all the way out. But the hangers have outlived just about everything else since i built them 10 years ago, and still not bent

i had thought about using the front hanger before, is there a reason to use a 2wd hanger versus a 4wd hanger?

I've done the front hanger from the rear spring a couple times... I built 6" shackles similar to diy's... Works perfect...

The reason you use 2wd is not because of length... Some hangers stick out away from the frame farther...

When you remove the rear hanger, leave the "L" brace under the frame that the shackle bolt goes thru... You'll notice real quick if you have the wrong front hanger... The correct one will flush up to the "L" brace and frame rail... The existing shackle bolt hole in the "L" brace will give you a good shackle angle with 56s and a 6" shackle...

If you search my use name, there's a build thread on my blazer showing this... My rig is built doing as many "homebrew" mods I could come up with... I built mine for almost nothing...

2wd hanger is 3" shorter than 4wd hanger.

and 2wd dosnt have the lower section for the kicker brace that catches the lower frame rail under side.

also 1/2 and 3/4 ton use 1 set of hangers for the 42.5" spring width .

and 1 ton use diffrent hangers for the 40.5" spring width .

I just went out and looked at the trucks in my yard and yes the 2wd is shorter than the 4wd... The stock hanger on the blazer is the one that sits closer to the frame, so that's the one that can't be used... I pulled a set off a blazer years ago and had to toss them...

You can use the 4wd hanger if you cut off some material from the top... We did that on a buddies rig...

The 4wd hanger is 11" long from the top of the hanger to the shackle bolt hole... The 2wd hanger is 6 1/2" from top to hole... The 2 & 4wd hangers measure 6" from frame to outside of the hanger and the blazer is 5" frame to outside...

Here's an idea. Cut a hole in the bottom of the shackle hanger that already exists on your frame. Give the hole enough access for the shackle to be inserted from the bottom. Then gusset the top for strength. Boom! Home made shackle flip.

I must admit, it's not my idea.

I ended up just making a whole new hanger, so today I cut all the pieces and I had em all together and they all fit good. Tomorrow I will weld them and hopefully have em on. No pics yet, but I'm happy with how it all fits together. Went with a design more like this one:

Cool deal, and nice to have a drawing for future references. We want pics!

I'm so bad when it comes to pics but I will get some. Being 3/8 it's gonna be a really heavy bracket, but that is to make up for my many (probably) design flaws. lol

yep. You just have to find the correct width for the front hanger. It depends on what axle was under the rear from the factory

Ran out of hockey pucks. Thats been in there 10 years now. Of note though, those are industrial grade teflon spacers

And today when I finally finished, I realized I screwed up. I originally had 2 1' pieces cut for the main part of the hanger, but I only needed them 9" so I was gonna cut them down and make it up......I forgot to cut them down...Doh. So I have some beefy looking shackle flip brackets but they hang down 3 inches to long. How much lift would that net me?
