Thats not good, if the inner racefalls out of the housing, maybe you need a new housing.
I get them out with a brass punch on the pinion and beat it out.

got another question, when i took the carrier off, there was only 1 shim. 1 in one side and none in the other, at least i can find. its almost 3/16" thick. i always thought that there were shims in both sides.

It might have shims behind the carrier bearing on one side.
