im changing the bearings in my dads 7.625 rear end in his safari minivan. i have the carrier out, pinion nut off and yoke off. the pinion seems to be stuck, doesn't look to be a snapring in there. what could it be? /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif

tried that, doesn't seem to change. it has a little play in it. its almost like the front most bearing is stuck on the pinion, the inner race moves with the pinion /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

ok i put the old nut on it and gave it some love from the persuasion stick, and she finely poped off. /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

got another question, when i took the carrier off, there was only 1 shim. 1 in one side and none in the other, at least i can find. its almost 3/16" thick. i always thought that there were shims in both sides. /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Thats not good, if the inner racefalls out of the housing, maybe you need a new housing.
I get them out with a brass punch on the pinion and beat it out.

It might have shims behind the carrier bearing on one side.

not the race that is press into the housing (outer race), the one on the pinion, the part with the cage and all the rollers (inner race)
