Well me and the girl I am seeing got into the my 65 Chevy because my keys were stolen a few weeks ago. She was actually the one who took a steak knife, cut some of the weather stripping (needs to be replaced anyway so I didn't care) and unhooked the vent window... I knew I had to bring her for it. Now I have to replace the lock and the ignition, but right now I just want to know how to hotwire this thing because I am going to take it to someone to get an engine swap in about a month and need a way for this guy to start it. When I have the floors redone I'll worry about the locks then. Anyone know how to hotwire a 65 Chevy C-10?
Details please!

P.S. if your keys are a screw driver and a steak knife, you might be a gearhead... or maybe a Chevy owner. :haha: Ok I'm done now!

jumper wire power to the coil and a remote switch hooked up, or a screwdriver between the 2 starter posts...

A truck that old would have the key switch in the dash. Remove the switch and make a couple of jumper wires for the plug itself. Should need one to keep it in the 'run' position (short wire with spade connectors on each end), plus a second one to put temp power to the starter (one spade for the hot supply and a bare end to touch to the starter feed pin).

No need to even open the hood.

Easiest way for what you are wanting is to just buy a universal key switch from the parts store, but make sure to get one with a G terminal for ground. Wire it up the same as the one in the truck with the addition of a ground wire.

could just call a locksmith and have new keys made.

i dont know that i would want some douche-bag running around with keys that STILL fit my truck  ....this option would be good if you just misplaced them :doah:....id just go to vatozone and get a whole new system (as stated previously)

fastest to get running, but after a reread, probably not the best approach if your gonna have someone else working on it... Don't wanna make him grumble, etc....

I would just get a replacement ignition switch.. super easy in the dash...

We constantly have to hotwire and break into boats... It's a weekly occurence... And usually super easy... to our customers surprise... :haha:

Pre lock column ignition switches . I know its fine for 67-72 , probably works 66 and back to a point as well .

1. Hold plug from switch in hand

2. jumper red to pink

3. momentarily jump red to purple

That gives you ignition and starter
