I finally rolled the truck out of the garage last weekend, after 2 months. I'm breaking in the gears in the 14FF, it has 5.13's and a Detroit turning 39.5 TSL's, and the rear cover gets pretty hot. I know it will get warm, but this is pretty hot. You can still put your hand on the cover but you don;t want to leave it there very long. I felt the cover on our '99 Tahoe and it was warm but not as much as my 14FF. Is it normal for it to get hot or do I have other problems?? I have about 200 miles on the rearend right now.

    Thanks for any advice.

If it were mine I'd open it up and double-check the pattern and backlash, just to be sure... New gears will get warm, but they shouldn't get too hot. It could be a sign of something in there being set too tight.
