Trying see what adaptor I need (tho I think I know) for my 4L80/205. I have a 2wd 4L80, full spline 6 1/4" output. Ford 205, 32 spline short input, 208/241 adaptor off 400. Course found out that the current adaptor won't work, ID is bigger and the mounting feet hit the tranny. What I'm looking for is how many there are, and how thick they are. Are there 2 styles (short/tall?) for the 91 OOBS?? Think the one I need needs to be 4 1/2". Pics too if yah got em.....

What the heck is OOBS? (Our Old Body Style?) I'm sure it's obvious lol.

For GM, there is only going to be one height, although as I recall the TH400/205 adapters can be machined a tiny bit to work, I'm assuming if that's the case then that both tall and short would work with the machine work. Short/Tall adapters are post/pre '85. That's what the height difference is. One catch here is CUCV's, it's been said that the post '85 CUCV's used the earlier tall adapters. Never with a 4L80E of course in any case.

There should only be one factory 4L80E/205 adapter, no reason to have anymore for that setup, it was only used (I think) the one year, in the 1991 old body style trucks.

Can't use the 91 4L80/205 adaptor, clocking is wrong and besides, I can't find one!!!

But what aboot the adaptor from a 91 'Burb with the 4L80 and 241?? Tho it is pass drop, crap.....clocking would be waaaay off.

OOBS you were sorta right, Old Old body style.....lol

Don't think the 4L80E/205 combo was used in any drivers drop setups. (I'm assuming that's what you need?)

Could be wrong, but pretty darn sure 1991 was the end of the 205 for GM. Dodge used it a few more years, but no idea what the drop is on those.

I know bout 91 only adaptor, I'm looking for the 241 versions. I don't think the pass drop will work for a driver drop, I would think the clocking would be way off. I guess the only other one is for the 92 and newer 80/241....

If I can't find the right adaptor and if the 91 burb is still there, then I'll probly go that route. I can't go very much on clocking, it was just about hitting the floor in my 89, and was still above the lowest part of the frame.

I'm hoping that's the one I can use. I have to measure it again, but I think I need aboot 4.5" and I think that is what that adaptor is....Find out tomorrow....

Why not redrill your t-case to accept whatever adapter you end up using?

Cause I already have the case, and 2" thick spacer so I can run a Ford 205 with a 2wd TH400.

Doesn't the 91 burb with the 4l80e come with a 205?

Nope, 241, I have one.

You sure? Damn, i thought i had a 205. Never looked though, just assumed......guess thats what i get for assuming.

But then again, for my use rite now, if the front drive shaft spins, i'm in good shape :haha:

Went to the yard today, and they had the 91 4l80/241 combo. Thought about sangging them, but don't have the need for them, nor the money to be spending on stuff that I can't readily use. But I did look at the adaptor, and looks to be thinner than the 400-208/241 adaptor. I could have sworn one of those was gonna be thick. Looked at the old man's truck, 98 with the 4l80/243 (electric shift) and looked to be the same thickness. So, inless there is another style adaptor, gonna have to cut the shaft on my 4L80.....

Isn't the late 80s 205 adaptor 4.5" thick?? I don't think there is a 4L80 adpator that is that thickness, so I can get a 2" thick spacer made, or use one of the 4L80 ones and cut the shaft....
