I don't think that the gate is that heavy... it's the hinges that get "locked" somewhat. Mine has been stored in a barn for the last 10 years, and no one has touched it... my gate is clean w/no rust, and it too is difficult to move. I am getting one from a junk yard this weekend for my Suburban, I will see if they can weigh it there...

When I installed my soft top a while ago I gutted my tailgate and weighed all the crap that came out. The rear glass itself was 23 lbs, and the regulator, motor and other associated junk came in at about 17 lbs. The tailgate shell is going to be a guess, but I recently re-installed it when I replaced the rear tub on my Jimmy. Devoid of window parts and containing only the latching mechanism it was very light, I'd guess its about the same as a p/u gate, maybe lighter.
Hope that helps a little Steve.

If no one else comes up with an exact measurement, then I will have it weighed this weekend and let you know. I'm replacing my tail pan on the 75' K5, so I'll have it off anyhow.
But honestly...that sucker is heavy. w/o those helper springs, you definately feel it's weight. My personal estimate.. is about 65lbs.

Dont know but there would be around a 4-5 pound difference in the power and manual gates. (motor)
One From None
I dont know the exact weight , but I know My brand new Gm Shell weighed 62 lbs.
I agree with Krazie
My gate is off & neither the gate nor the glass was very heavy. The hinges on the other hand are dead stiff!! I had one in the bench vise & needed a wrench to get it to bend!
I'll weigh it all tonight & post my results.
OK, weighed it all this morning before I came to work. The empty steel gate weighs approx. 60 lbs, the glass weighs 18 lbs & the regulator assembly weighs in at around 8 lbs.
The only thing that was missing was the couple channels that the glass rides in (which weigh less than a pound at a guess) and the handle mechanism which again is negligible
So who is right and who is wrong(LOL) one say's 23lbs. and one say's 18lbs. for the glass
Are they both right ? will the real glass man know ?
Roughly that of a small Volkwagen!
Why do people keep calling it a Bronco!!!!!
