heres the ad from CL DONT BUY IT!! i want it lol
http://austin.craigslist.org/car/425006578.html

and heres what he has told me in emails. im going to take a trip to look at it this sunday if its still availible. he doesnt want to trade:crazy: its got 350 465 205 and its has 456's with 33s! i bet it halls ass but how would that drive on the highway?
My intentions for the truck would be to keep it very stock with maybe 37s on six inches or so. no dings or dents but i will get it muddy.

heres what he said:
I saw this truck sitting out in some weeds just outside of Thorndale, TX. Put a battery on it and it started. I took it to a tractor pull in Priddy, TX where me and my friends expected to blow it up. Out of 20 trucks it got second place. I decided it wanted to live. From there I took it to the auto department at the High School in Brownwood where they made a project truck out of it and went through the 4 wheel drive and the engine. Yes it is fuel injected. From there I had new exhaust and echo chambers put on it. High School did new headers. Had it repainted in Goldthwaite. Brought it back to Georgetown. Had the transmission gone through at Interstate Transmission and all they had to do was put a new seal kit and new yokes in. From there the truck has been solid. After that I started with windshield wiper motor, water pump, shocks, all lights, headliner, window motor, power steering pump, etc. Does not have a tach. The engine is new, I still have the paper work from the previous owner. I think it has about 15k miles on the new engine now. And just the other day I had to go and put brand new tires on it. BF Goodrich A/T's and I took the 35's off and put 33's on. Looks better to me. Only thing that I know is wrong is one window is slow going and the dip stick is broken off. I just put 5 1/2 quarts in every month or two. I have the new dipstick but I have to drop the pan to get the old broken piece off and haven't done it yet. Horn is finicky. Plus put its first gooseneck hitch in and wired the lights. after all it is a 1-ton.

Like I say, I love this truck but I like my dually better. And I want my garage back.

High School kids, what did they do to it!
Had to say from pics, but 7900 seems a little high for a k30 with a 350. Maybe 6000. I'd have to see better pictures.

Too late, I already bought it!

Kidding!

Nice find. I'd say less than what he's asking. I probably wouldn't pay more than $5K for it. That would be around the going rate for old trucks like these.

yeah im kinda weary about that too. the high school kids i went to school with were retards.

heres some pics before and after:
he offered 6500 to me after i offered to trade.

I"d pay that price for an original one with under 100k on it. Just cause he put 8k in, doesn't mean everything was done right and if I'm gonna spend that kinda money on an older truck, I want it near perfect.

little unclear. he says the engine has about 15k on it? Did he have that engine built or is that the engine that was in it when he bought it? How many miles on the entire truck. It didn't look half bad before.

Up here he'd get that for it if it was solid body wise.

Down there? Somehow I doubt it since you guys don't have episodes of body cancer like we do. Not to mention 350 = 12mpg at best. Still, it is a 1-ton.

I'd do my father and grandfather's old method.
-Ask for the VIN number and run it. Never know, he might have found it with a smashed cab and a salvage title.
-Go with $6000 or whatever you reasonably feel it is worth and you can feel good about paying for it. CASH or money order, just so you can wave it in front of him. Checks never seem to have the same affect.
-Bring your tools and your jack and use them.
-Climb all over the thing keeping track of every little imperfection and issue.
-Ask LOTS of questions. Try to catch him in "muddled history".
-Don't get buddy buddy with him. Talk little and give him the "scrutinizing the truck" impression.
-Pick a few things about the truck that have either been changed or broken and go, "damn...I really liked those hard to tune factory radios with the two little knobs...guess I'll have to live with a fancy CD player.":doah::rolleyes::wink1::D

Basically show you aren't some rube interested in a big truck, know your ****, are aware of it's flaws and the work it needs, have some concerns...but have some cash right there that he can go deposit in the bank or a G-string as soon as he hands you the keys.
Not going to make you a new friend but might just get you a good truck for less than he felt like taking.

thanks for some good insight guys, my truck is very clean and i am very detail oriented. from Ck5 i have gained alot of knowledge of these trucks and i think im prepared. im very in tune with my SBC and i think im pretty good with them, but FI, thats a new one to me. as with this 60/14. im not so sure i can handle it really lol. how can i tell if its gonna have death wobble? i know its aggrivated by large tires but can i visually inspect for worn out kingpins?

the interior is not mint cause it has buckets in it and it doesnt have a tach? i thought that was wierd. maybe its an auto? and the motor isnt original, maybe i can squeeze 5k out of him. the problem is that i have to sell my truck to get that much cash.

You said its a tbi 350 with a sm465 4.56s and 33s? Gonna be a bit of a screamer on the freeway. I have 33s and 4.10s and a 465, I run about 3000 at 60. If I bought it I'd put some lift and 35s on it and that would help ;)

I like the fact its TBI, my burb is tbi and I love it. If its good as it looks and seems to be mechanically sound I'd pay 5500 for it myself.

man yo9u guys are the reason why truck cost so much...lol bought a K30 here for 1500 and might have 4 in it now..if i lowered it id have the same truck with 4.10s and a carb. id pay 3500. for one high school students arent professionals, 2 if it had a new motor doubt previous owner would let it sit over a battery issue. lol you guys make me laugh

well you gotta consider. when texas folks in thorndale buy a one ton, they dont get power windows and definately dont get AC. the generally worked them to the bone and then parked em when the folks upgraded or died. these are a rare breed especially with the 60 still under it.

i understand HS kids are dumb but maybe just maybe there was one like me. maybe.
