Thinking about switching to a synthetic or synthetic blend in my DD, how often will i need to change the oil? Can i go 6K?

Depends on how you drive, conditions, blah-blah-blah...

Newer oils are designed to last until around 6k before needing changed. I normally change mine at around 4k, but I guess I'm just ol' fashioned. :D

Ive always done 3K but the maintance schedule for my truck has scheduled maintance in 6K incriments. I just figure if i can change it at 6k i wont forget to do it every other time.

Since I dont have a spedo in my DD I am a 3-4mo kind of person, unless harsh driving conditions then sooner.

When I first switched to synthetic, I would go about 6K miles before a change. Since my truck is no longer a DD, about once a year. So far, it's been March of last year since it's been changed, but it has all of about 2000 miles since then and 1400 of those were in two days. :D

GO full synthetic, dont bother with the blends. Mobil 1 now has the super high mileage 15000 oil, however, I dont recommend using it to that length unless you spend money to do oil analysis. Most new cars can do easily 7500 miles before an oil change, and many new BMW's and mercedes all commonly go over the 10,000 mile mark. I just dont know with our older designed engines if there is more fouling from fuel that would require us to change it more frequently.

Every 5000 miles on a 5000 mile multiple on the odometer (…25,000, 30,000, 35,000, 40,000, 45000…) because it is often enough and easy to keep track of without writing it down.

Been running Mobil 1 for years now. Change it once a year. The '87 K5 had 125K on it when traded. The '94 Sub has 132K on it now. The '91 S-10 has 159K on it now. Never had to go inside any of 'em.

3k, non synthetic. i'd rather have fresh cheap oil than old synthetic oil.guess im old fashioned. plus my truck burns oil when i use that mobile 1 5-30, doesnt burn hardly any with regular 10-30.

if i had a 2000+ car/truck i'd probly use synthetic tho.

im with pookster, i think you have to have a really tight motor to be able to run the longer mileage that synthetic claims. i think old style 350's just dont keep the oil clean enough to justify the use of expensive synthetic.

Everyone seems to be using Mobil1 oil anyone have any experance with Castrol Synthetic oil?

Syntec is terrible stuff. I wouldnt use it. (it isnt real synthetic- its acutally just refined dino oil.)

those guys are Fanatics about oils....

We've always went 7 to 8000 miles between changes on our vehicles. Dad just did a rebuild on his 4 cyl s-10 with over 200k on it. EVERYTHING was still within original factory specs. cam, valves, crank, rods, cylinders, and there were still some cross hatch marks in the cylinders. And we use standard pensoil, and (gasp) fram filters.

you should have put (gasp) behind penzoil also :)

Ive never had one person tell me anything good about their oil.
