How to fix fender rust

Yeah, I'd rather not have to mess with that. I guess I'll just put them and find out.

Check with Zoomad or Larry about the mod they did to the fenders to reinforce the spot welds before you install these.

Rust free squarebody fenders. Nice find. Does this guy run a public yard? Next time I'm in AZ I'll need to stop by.
Nah, well kinda. when you get to town message me and I'll send you his number. He's a cool guy out in Apache junction. He always has square body stuff

Ha, that's why I created a thread... not much interest it seems. Hahahahah
Pretty simple. That upper rear bracket that bolts the fender to the cowl in two spots can come loose. Space out 10 or so holes on the bracket (careful not to jab your bit all the way through the outer skin, we stuffed a chunk of 1x lumber inside) then use flanged head bolts and prevailing torque locknuts and bolt that sucker together.

Though that main reason I’ve been breaking mine is the tires are getting into the fenders as the suspension compresses. The lip of the fender will fold and self clearance to a certain extent but the tire still rubs. That’s with 4” lift springs and 315/75r16 tires which measure out to 34.6ish.

If you don’t go harder than a graded dirt road they may not contact. But actually flexing it out may put the tire in contact with the fender in the same way. The problem is as the tire pushes up it forces all the stress into that spot welded bracket. I’m on my third fender on the left and second on the right. I have Bushwacker cut out flares to put on mine to gain more clearance plus I may end up putting a larger bump stop to limit up travel.

Here's a pic of what we did to my fender.

Safe to say that is no longer a weak point.
Probably moved the weak point but ultimately not having the tire make out with the fender repeatedly off road will be the lasting fix.
