The sealer between my firewall and cowl is due for replacement. How do you guys get it all out? I plan on adding a long tube to the new sealer tip to get it all the way to the edges, and I want clean metal for it to bond with.

up in under wiper

pick out what you can .

scuff up rest with wire brush .

install new and feather out with finger best you can .

did this years ago on a leaking one and 13 years later no leaks but rest of truck was toast .

Just saw something interesting on a show where instead of heat, they froze sound deadening material with dry ice and it flaked off.... dunno how you would freeze the seam sealer but may be worth it to give it a shot.

I use a map gas torch and a sharp putty knife. Gotta be careful not to burn the putty, but, even then, it comes right up.
