I need to buy some spring hangers for a set of Skyjacker 8" softride springs. The bushing set is part number SE11C. The metal sleeves are just over 3 5/8" long. What width spring hanger do I need? I'm looking at the universal front hangers sold by a few different companies.

The hanger doesn't actually care how wide the springs are, but how wide the *bushings* are. That width depends on which end, i.e. are you talking about the front or rear hanger?

8" SkyJacker front springs for the 73-87 trucks. I'm using them for a SAS into a '96 K1500.

My springs are 2.5" wide. Each bushing is .5", so with the bushings installed they are 3.5" wide. The steel sleeve is just over 3 5/8", which makes it just a bit more than 1/8" too long. This makes it seem like the bushing can slide from side to side on the sleeve.

So I guess my question is, how wide are the front bushings of the front spring for a 73-87 truck?

Here is the styles of hangers I want to use, but it leads me to believe that 2.5" wide springs use a 1/4" bushing for a total width of 3".

just a fyi if you want quality and bolt in . i know you havnt been around as much .

but ord and diy4x both have sas kits now for the 88-98 trucks. :thumb:

and there made for the 73-87 springs.

Chevy rear springs are 2.5" wide with .25" bushings on each side for an assembled width of 3". Inner sleeve is 3".

Factory front stuff is 3" spring with .25" wide poly shoulders which leaves you with an assembled width of 3.5". If your sleeve is 3 5/8" or a hair longer, you'll have a hell of a time putting it in the factory hanger.

Divorced,

Do you have a caddy big block intake?

I've got a 36.5" Ford D60, I'm thinking Kert only has a 32" kit I believe, otherwise I'd be interested in what he has. The ORD kit looks nice, but I'm concerned with the frame horns twisting with a hanger that doesn't have a full crossmember like the Sky kit. I'm not sure how common it is, but my friend SAS his '96 K1500 about 8 years ago using the ORU brackets and his frame horns are twisted pretty good. Maybe the newer kits are different and I'm concerned for no reason, idk? I wish Kert made a flip n switch for the rear of a '96 Suburban also...

Yeah, I'm not impressed with the Skyjacker bushing kit. I'd thing for $35 I wouldn't have to grind the sleeve, but I guess I'll have to.

Thanks for the specs on the springs, that clears things up a lot! Sorry, no caddy intake.

crab a kit and weld in a 2x2 square tube and then add the 2" hitch point in the middle.

but each to there own and good luck.

if me i would also add or want a cross brace in the front hanger area .

So while I have a thread going about bushings, let me throw something else out here... for the REAR of the Suburban.

For a '96 Suburban, what is the rear spring bushing width and bolt diameter? Are they the same for the front and rear of the spring?

For a '96 Ram 1500, what is the rear spring bushing width and bolt diameter? Are they the same for the front and rear of the spring?

The reason I ask is because nobody makes a rear lift spring for the Suburban! The Suburban spring is 60" long with the centering bolt centered at 30" between the eyes. According to the internet, the Dodge springs are also 60" long, but the centering pin is offset with 28" in front of it and 32" after it. Both springs are 2.5" wide.

I'm looking at the Superlift rear lift springs for a '96 Dodge 1500 4x4.

I'd like to use the Dodge springs, which would position the axle 2" forward, then use an EZ Inch to move it back 1.5", almost to where it started.

I'm not sure if it will help but I could get specs on a 96 Dodge 2500 tomorrow, not sure if it's different from a 1500 :dunno:

From what I understand the 2500 light duty is the same, but the HD is different. I have no idea the difference between the two trucks.
