How would you get to Moab?

I'd have to upgrade to a 3/4 or 1 ton truck to get a diesel to pull my blazer out there. And a trailer. It's only like 1800 miles, I could man up and do that in 3 days. The wife and kids could fly out to meet me so they don't go insane. They have to ride home with me though =)
That's the long term plan for when the kids are old enough to appreciate it. Hopefully in 10 years or so. You know, if we aren't in flying cars by then.

Haha post 69.

What happened to this society,
no one takes road trips with their family anymore???

that's the whole point of this deal, road trip out to Moab, have fun for a few days, road trip it back....

everybody seems to be in too big of a hurry to get somewhere, instead of driving, enjoying the sites and having nice quality family time,,,damn.

It sounds like Hosalabad has some real young kids and i for one wouldn't be able to deal with toddlers strapped into a car seat for 3 days / 14 hours a day.

my post wasn't so much directed at him personally, i hear that sort of "talk" alot lately though from an assortment of people, not just here. :D

It's not so bad with little kids (at least mine), but not if you drive 14 hours in a straight shot. Our first year, we drove straight through in two days and all of us were pretty "unpleasant" to be around when we got there even though there were no kids. :)

The last couple times, we took several days to get there and stopped at different places on the way there. The kids can deal with about 6 hours of driving a day and that's about all I'm good for as well. If they can sleep in the car, that helps a lot. You just gotta plan your route so you can enjoy the trip and not worry about getting there are quick as possible.

It helps that Disneyland, Vegas, Tahoe, are all on potential routes from northern Ca. We've also got tons of pictures of just being in the truck goofing around and sitting around campfires at some weird campground or motel.

Road trips are still possible with kids, you just have to plan a little more than you did when you were single and 21 years old.

Yep. 3 and a half and 9 months. When they are old enough to zone out on their ipods we'll be set.
I'd love to drag a Blazer around for two weeks if it meant wheeling Moab for a few days. I have fond memories of the family road trip when I was 12 or so.

Mine are about the same age. The oldest one first came to moab when she was 1 and a half.

Try this: Portable dvd player with "Finding Nemo", "The Wiggles", and "Backyardigans" will guarantee you at least 5 hours of quiet happy driving if you include at least one lunch from McDonalds. :D

Not everybody, here's an account of trips from the last two years...

Actually, we're in a bit of a hurry, because we typically run out of daylight on these trips...:D

You can do like what we used to do in high school when we wanted to go to Panama City, Fl from Atlanta, I had a lifted z71 with 37's, get some stock wheels and bolt them on, throw the big meats in the back and save on gas, bearing wear/tear, expensive tire wear, (gets you weird looks all the way there) I think driving there is half the fun

My 700 broke at the sun shell. No amount of hot or cool causes this. Got horrible mpg, since dyno tuned the holley. Now it would be with my k30 w/ a 454.

I realize I am not driving as far as you guys, I only have to go 450 miles. But dang just drive. I went the first 5 years in a sami. I have replaced clutches wheel bearings third members all sorts of crap in Moab. Yes it does suck but Moab is a great place to go. I drove the blazer several times. You get your truck ready for a long road trip and it makes it, you have built a great truck. It seems like road trips kill off road trucks

oh yeah and although I have never done it before I have a set of 36s to put on Horton to drive long distances. The 44s will go in a small utility trailer that I will tow

You coming down this year brother is coming from Portland then four more are coming from SLC area so we will a caravan going

I was just trying to save on fuel and trouble getting back if we really wreck something.
