Chaddy, I came across a pic of a ram mount that you posted. I was curious how it's working. Any thoughts or new info? I'm assuming it's yours.

I was going to PM you, but I figured others might be interested in the design.

TIA :D

This 1 is actually SCOOBYDANNS, but mine is the same and works like a dream.

No clearance issues at all. I wouldnt mount a ram any other way.

The reason I like it so much better than the tie-rod set-up, is the fact you basically have a ram on each knuckle without the tie-rod restricting assist. Plus if you smash your tie-rod, it wont kill your ram or its position. Its only about $100 to put an arm on the driver knuckle and about an hour to build the bracket.

Hope this helps......................Chaddy

Thanks for the help! :waytogo:

One question, did you get a 6" or 8" stroke?

If I had a D60 that is how I would mount a hydro ram for sure. Since I dont have a D60 I am gonna mount my hydro ram to the tierod so I don't beat the crap out of the balljoints & risk breaking the steering studs pretty often.

I'm wondering if this is doable with hi-steer...

well, i figured tr interference might be an issue..

I'll play the bad guy just for discusion sake.

With the ram mounted to the top of the knuckle as shown in the picture above all force is transfered through one knuckle from the top of the king pin area to the steering arm area and then into the tie rod, then on to the other knuckle. This is very hard on knuckles.

With it mounted the "traditional" way to the tierod the load path goes to both knuckle steering arms directly. Much easier on knuckles.

Is it that much better to have the ram mounted that high? Is this a setup that is better suited to the guy with after market knuckles only?

If you go this far why not mount the ram to the steering arm on the one end and the frame on the other?

chaddy or whoever else has a bracket welded onto the axle, could you snap some more pics of it? i need to make a similar bracket on my axle since im running reverse hi-steer. thanks guys

For high steer I'd just opt for a tierod behind the axle.

thats what my setup is, and i plan to mount the ram to the tie-rod but i was wanting some more pics of the bracket they constructed and welded to the axle to bring the ram up to that height

I agree 100%. I wouldn't do it.
