I have a K5!

Daily driver. Doesn't need big tires. Maybe one day I'll dig up a 14SF with 6 lugs for the rear. Other than that I really have no reason to upgrade the axles unless they make me.

Yup. Big Ugly is the be-all, do-all wheel-around-in-the-woods, haul, tow, and be Big and Ugly vehimikle. I don't wheel all that hard anymore so it's not really going to be all that extreme. Doesn't need to be and that also means I can still keep it a bit civilized and useful.

The Blazer is going to be the DD/road tripper/"nice vehicle"/puppy wagon/etc. This is why I didn't just slap some 32's or 33's on the stock wheels as I want a taller tire to help with the gearing, a higher load range, but not a wider tire.

Had pretty much given up though as the cheapest 16x7's or 16x8's with backspacing like we need were going to cost me over $350 before shipping new. Couldn't find any used. Then stumbled on this "lightly used" set on here. Woot!

Just curious, what backspacing did you need?

3.5 to 4".

Most 6 lug 16" wheels are meant for the IFS trucks and have over 4" of backspacing. These actually duplicate the GM 15x8 rally wheel. Same width and backspacing only 1" taller.

I'd stay away from those Savero tires if you can. I had a set on my blazer. With 20k miles in 3 years, all of them had seriously dry rotted and cracked. Steel belts were showing on 3 of them.

Eh, I had a bunch of friends with them in New Zealand. Everybody loved them. If I only get 3 years out of them I'll still get my money's worth.

Actual GT Savero's? Wow, pretty rare here in the States until recently. Where'd you get them?

No, they were Savero somethings I bought in 2002. I have pics of them if you want to see the tread. I dont know how long they actually lasted and were usable. I sold the truck in 2002 and bought it in 2005 with 20k added on the odo and they looked like hell. He only used the truck for the deer lease and random commuting and drives like grandpa.

Did he ever rotate the tires? Alignment good?

I'm not doubting you but I've heard "mud tires wear funny always" so many times...then you find out the guy never rotates his tires, doesn't have an alignment, has 60psi in the tires, etc etc. I mean, I've had folks tell me Michelins and BFG's are the worst tires in the world...

I've had good luck with generic brands. The advantage I have with these is, like I said, I've seen them in action. I also rotate my tires every oil change and tend to take care of them. I guess we'll see. Even then...in 3 years I'll probably be eying bigger tires and axles...

Alignment was/is good. I am not positive about rotation, but he is usually pretty good about maintenance. He takes his vehicles to the mechanic all the time. They were not work funny or even close to being worn out. Just dry rotted bad and split open so that the belts were showing through the tire.

Got the tires and wheels mounted today. Not on the truck yet as I think I have a ball joint or wheel bearing going out and I figure I'll wait on putting them on until after I have that fixed. No need in putting odd wear on new tires.

Going to sipe the center tread blocks soon. Do that with all my mud tires. They balanced them for me but I'm still getting some Innovative Balancing Beads for them.

I likes. My 31's mounted on the truck are about 28.5-29" tall. These are 32" on the rim with too much pressure and no weight. I still figure they should be 2" taller than the 31's with the weight of the truck on them.:cool1:

Oh, and why I got the thing. They sure do like it:

Wow... I had to go back into the living room and double check my dogs were still here.

Grabbed 'em while you weren't looking.

Your Goldie a tripod?

Well, the truth of the matter seems to be that the Goldie doesn't notice either. Seems like as long as they can smile and play they're fine.

Those are definitely not the same tread as the Saveros I had. Looks good!

Were yours a mud or an AT? They had a different MT tread when I was around them 8-9 years ago.

Weird part was this guy had every car and highway tread and these...but no GT Savero AT's.
