I have a K5!

Very little progress on the roll bar. Been busy with things lately.
Did manage to get the bottom brackets cleaned and painted up with my lumpy old Rust Bullet. Not pretty but it will work. Cleaned up all the threads and scored some new Grade 8 bolts from work that should work nicely.
Rest of the bar is waiting on time and energy now.

Put a deposit down with a coworker on a rust free Chevy pickup tailgate with all the mounting stuff. Apparently his dad loves these Chevy trucks (coworker has two nice lifted pickups) and has accumulated quite a stockpile of parts.

Starting down the road to going (half) topless.

Yep. Working on it. Been sliding the guy some cash every pay day. Hell of a deal but my budget is just limited right now. Real vintage, rust free, all GM parts and sheetmetal. Even a Chevy tailgate.

Let me know when you decide to switch tailgates... or tops for that matter... I'm still interested in some swappin!

(I need some tailgate support straps too if your guy has any extra. My blazer doesn't have any)

How about that roll bar?

I cant imagine how much more progress you would make if you worked on your truck as much as you voice your opinions on everbody elses rigs! Lol, just messin:D

Haven't touched it. As others noted...time and effort. This whole having a gf thing is killin' my lazy...errrr...garage...time.

Tailgate straps, last I knew NAPA and Rock Auto had them. I was going to order a set from Rock Auto unless I caught them on sale at NAPA. They get corrosion in there so best to just get new ones. $40 or so total investment. I wouldn't sell ya mine, they're kinked and damaged.

Will do. Be spring time-ish. With as busy as things have been lately I haven't done crap and won't until then probably. About to leave for at least a week, possibly two for work.:doah:

I wish I had $25 so I could see the pics. :haha:
Hey, not my fault you decided to go to college.

Spring is fine... I just don't want you to forget :D
And... I'm guessing the leave isn't for vacation... got to go train?

Got to go fix some one else's **** ups.:doah: I have a thread in the Lounge about it.

I won't forget. If I'm taking the top off and giving it to you then you're sure as hell helping get that bastard off.:D

...and if I get her greasy it won't be to work on the truck.:waytogo:
She does like it though.

I got replacement gate straps from a local parts store, both for under $20. They are cheap and easy to replace.

Yah I'm just messin with yah buddy. I know how the gf thing goes too:thumb:

Got the tailgate and they're working on getting me the bottom brackets.

It's rougher than I was expecting but it's mostly all there with no jagged rust holes or anything and I dig that it's got the big CHEVROLET stamped across it. I'm likely going to bedliner the whole damn thing so I can always grind off the rust and just encapsulate the thing.

No, I'm not keeping the Calvin peeing on Ford sticker.

Yeah, I'm happy enough with it. Need to get the latches fixed too.

Even better, my buddy likes doing stuff like this so has volunteered to bust it down and get it ready to be painted or whatever.

Tailgate has progressed exactly zero. Buddy is currently using it as a work bench. Long story.

However I have done something lately.

(Rust Bullet on the feet where they were on the ground, Blackshell over that, then Rustoleum rusty metal primer and then three coats of Rustoleum Black Hammered brushed on. Looking pretty good. More of a Gunmetal Gray though.)

Hahaha, yeah, about that.

Hoping to get it on soon. Saw salt on the roads downtown on Saturday so it's done for the season. Have a zillion things to check, especially considering all the new oil all over the bottom.

How's things? Haven't seen you lately.
