So I need a new condenser. I was checking out my a/c since its never worked for the year that I've owned the truck. I noticed that the top line coming off the condenser was sheared off! :eek1:

So I'm looking at new condensers. Are these pretty standard? I could buy a $200 one from LMC, or get a $110 from autozone.com

Are there really any differences in these? Should I just get a cheap one or do I need to invest in a more expensive model.

so, the old r12s were just straight left to right if i remember right, and the newer retrofit ones have multiple lines running in different directions giving the condenser more surface area which equals cooler air. Ill try and find the thread on this, it was either here or on 67-72.

Thanks for the link, I just order it.

I got it from here....$110 shipped.

Now I probably need to think about the other components. What do you know about compressors? Should I upgrade? I need this baby blowing cold here is hot as hell south florida.

I plan on replacing the components as needed and bringing it somewhere to get charged up.

Converting to r134a?

If compressors good, replace all seals, oriface tube, drier, and it should be icccceee cold.

The real key to converting to 134a is the condenser.
134a holds more heat than 12, and you need the different condenser to get rid of the heat.
If the one you ordered is the cross-flow type designed for 134a then it should be fine.

And since the line has been sheared off for awhile you need to purge and clean the system. Otherwise known as clean out any bugs or other crap that might have gotten in there
