I have a '90 K5 with 350 TBI, it starts fine when it's cold, but it has a strong fuel fumes in the cab and all around the truck. Then after I run it for a while and turn it off it's hard to start and seems like it's running on 4 cylinders. Finally after letting it sit it'll crank and run fine but still with heavy fuel fumes. I need some advice please!!!!!!!

THANKS,

check under ur air filter. look at both injectors and they should be spraying a little bit, but if it looks like its more then it should, they may be flooding it. which could be an O2 sensor problem. is ur check engine light on?

Check obviously for any fuel leaks at the fuel lines, and also pull the air cleaner and see if there is any traces of fuel puddling under the fuel pressure regulator. If so you might have a bad fuel pressure regulator diaphragm. Since you say it's hard to start that leads me to believe your problem is somewhere within the TBI area.

If you have an adjustable timing light you can look at the actual "fuel cone" that the injectors are making. Just hook it up like you normally would and run the truck with the air cleaner off. Point the light at the injectors and adjust until you can see the shape of the fuel coming out of the injectors. it should appear as a smooth cone. otherwise like everyone said, check for fuel leaks at the rear of the TBI unit as well as the connecctions to the hard lines

yes my check engine light comes on when it is having problems also my speedo quit the last itme i ran it, i'm going to check the injectors today.

thanks,

Sorry for not replying sooner been sick. the only code showing is 24 and that the speed sensor. I looked at the injector and the right one is spraying but also dripping fuel, I didn't have a timing light just naked eye.

Thanks,

Try swapping the connectors on the injectors...one side to the other, see if the problem follows the wires or if it's the injectors. Apparently there is a gasket in the TBI injector pod that fails, sounds like that might be your problem. Others with TBI experience I hope will chime in to confirm or correct me. :)

I bet the diaphram in the fuel pressure regulator has a pin hole leak. I just replaced one on my step-sons 93 chevy truck. The strange thing is I didn't see the leak until the air cleaner and spacer was removed. Apparently, the leaking fuel would would be channeled around to the throttle body venturi and would dump into them. No wonder he got poor fuel economy.

I'm getting a kit for the fuel regulator and a gasket for the TBI where it connects to the intake because I think it's getting too much air. Maybe this will work.

Problem solved, a friend of mine had a fuel pressure regulator and injectors he was not using, we changed it out and it starts and runs fine. Now I need to work on a leaking heater core. Thanks for the help.
