I've borrowed a Snap-on R121 tapered reamer (also called #220) from a friend,
to ream out the pitman-arm and steering arm on my dodge,
to fit a Chevy drag-link.

First I was a little chocked when I read "Hand equipment ONLY, DO NOT use with power tools" on the label :doah:

But I googled it and found out that many people had used it,
and it had worked ok as long as rpm's was kept low,
and a lot of coolant was used.

But I couldn't find any markings about what taper it had.
So I measured it, and that's when I got the real shock...
The taper isn't 1:8 as it should be, it's about 1:6.7
THIS MEANS THERE WOULD BE A 0.5mm (~0.02") OF PLAY IN THE BIG END OF THE TAPER IF I USE A CHEVY DLE :eek1::eek1::eek1:

How the heck can this be sold by some companys to be used as a reamer for chevy DLE/TRE:s! :shame: :screwy:

If it where the other way around and it had the play in the small end, I might have dared to used it.
But this way it increase the leverage on the pin, and will probably wear out the hole and snap off eventually.

Just wanted to give you guys a heads up, if you didn't already know this.

I guess you already knew it...

Anyway, since I needed a new reamer with the correct taper, I searched some more.
But many of the links I came up with was dead, so I did some digging myself and made a new list of true 1:8 (1.5"/foot) reamers:

Polyperformance PPM-4011 $95
X-KUT #5952 $84.99
stockcarproducts R8201 $107.75
Travers 04-092-230 $113.22

This one I'm not sure of since it has conflicting info in the web-shop and in their pdf catalog.
Goodson TR-216-2 $129.99

I think I'll be buying the X-kut.
It's out of stock at the moment, but I E-mailed him and got a reply that it should be back in stock in 2 weeks.
Anyone here that has used it and can tell me what kind of quality to expect from it?

IIRC our local hardware store has the proper reamer for around $45-50

If you want I can stop by the hardware store either tomorrow evening sometime or over the weekend and let you know for sure what they have and for how much.
