Installing TH400/203 I have 2 Questions

I am going to be installing a TH400 this weekend. I have 2 questions:
1. Which is the output and which is the return on the cooler line hook ups on the TH400?
2. When installing the shifting linkages what is the best way to tell if the tranny is in park? Thanks!

What weight gear oil should I put in the 203? Where is the vent tube on the 203? Thanks!

Daws, I still have not gotten out to look at my kickdown for you yet.

Those cooler lines should be ready to go right into the ports and screw in. You should not have to guess which line goes where as the tubes are bent where one is slightly longer than the other and will only fit in the port that is slightly further away from the other.

To get your linkage on the tranny into park, grab it and twist it clockwise until it won't twist anymore.

The NP203 will use ATF, just like the TH400. Do not use 80-90 weight oil.

Well I wish your cooler line idea worked, but I bent the ones off my 700R4 out of the way after I disconnected them so I can't tell which goes where. Anyone have an idea? When do you think you will have a chance to look @ the kickdown? Tranny I'm hoping is going to go in this weekend and I would like to have the kickdown in by Monday.

I was under the impression that 203s took gear oil, gear oil came out of the 203 when I got it and Brians 60s said gear oil went in it. Anyone else?

I will check my service manual and see what it shows as to which line goes to which port.

Every 203 I have dealt with had ATF in it. I just took one off a truck last weekend and it had ATF. My coat is still coated with ATF on the sleeves and its a redish color, too. I will check my service manual for this info, too.

My 76 service manual calls for 10w30 motor oil.

I always thought the 203's took motor oil.

'85 K5 : Run it til it breaks, then fix it and go again!
 
I always thought that 203's used gear oil if the were full time or 30W motor oil if they were converted to part time. not sure though, never had one.

If it's a part time unit try calling Mile Marker (sorry - dont know the number), they've made the kits forever.
