As I get ready to finish the floor of my K, I have the interior spare carrier stuff. How big a tire will that fit? I'm looking to go to 33's. Will one of those fit in there?

Lots of opinions, as tire sizes are only nominal at best, and there were variations on the stock tire carrier over the years.

Specifically, I successfully fit a 33x12.50 BFG AT with good tread on a factory 15x8 ralley into the back of my '84 M1009 on the factory carrier, but it was tight.

I recall fiddling with the bolt that held the tire to the carrier, though that may have been some weird CUCV thing. And while the tire physically fit back there, it was tight and scrunched up the vinyl on the back of the back seat just a bit.

Regulatory pic is hopefully worth 1000 words.

yep.. I have a 33in... tailgate barley shuts... good and tight ..no squeak.

Does your 33in tire also hit the vinyl on the back seat? Does this cause any damage to the vinyl?

Depends on tread depth and how dirty the tire is =))

If you're concerned about the seat, a towel or rag might be well-placed. It'll still scrunch the vinyl up but at least won't get it dirty.

Does it do any permanent damage to the vinyl? I would be running the same bfg tires you have.

I have a 35 BFG Mud in the back of mine. I put a spacer under the bottom where it bolts to the floor, and it hits the back of seat, but the tailgate closes.
