iwaxmyjimmy submitted a new Build:

iwaxmyjimmy's build thread

Well since I got laid off I have found the time to work on the K5 again. Main problems are cracked radiator tank, blown heater core, torque converter went out, and the rear gov-bomb id its thing. I just popped open the diff cover and was like d@mn. The driveside side gear (that so doesn't look like correct grammer) is completely chewed up and both the gears on the crosspin have small chunks missing. But it kinda buttonhooked me. I've thought about buying a 4 spd parts truck preferably 4wd 3/4 ton so I can get a decent drivetrain, but I've got and open carrier I could swap in and while am at it I've got some used 4.10s I got for free that it would only cost me a inner pinion bearing, crush sleeve, ring gear bolts and pinion seal to regear.

Well yesterday I stripped all the molding off the body, removed the bumpers taillights, grille, head lights and starter prepping it somewhat for primer. Today all the interior minus the dash is coming out so I can check the floor pans for rust. I'm so stoked I have only found one spot of cancer, behind the left tail light in the tub. The rockers are solid as a rock and this truck is all original less the cd player and wheels and tires.

I'll try and get some pics tomorrow. Ive got the top of the cab the door jams and the quarters primered. Found a 4 spd 3/4 ton on craigslist, waiting on a reply. Found a couple more small patches of rust(ie. driver seat mount, tailgate hindge and right where the bed drops down to the floor pan). Trying to decide on being cheap and building my own front 52 mounts and rear shackle flip or not. But, ima try and get some pics for yall tomorrow.

I'm a huge fan of Kurts stuff, but the front hangers arent hard at all to do. Its really just the rivets that can sometimes be a pain. I will prob. buy the shackle flip brackets since I'm dropping the tank so I can get the hitch off.

I got a little more done this weekend. I bought the stuff to put the roll on bedliner stuff down, removed the sway bar, about 20 lbs of mud from various locations on the truck to fill in a hole my dog made, and all I have left to paint is the hood. I have to say my hat is off to the guys who use nothing but hand tools to work on things. I am super dependent on my air compressor and vass majority of airtools. anyway way more pictures......

Well I rolled on the bedline for the front floor pan last night. Today I bolted in the seats and console, hid the seatbelt warning light and overhead light wires, sprayed the hood and cowl panel, after I cleaned out the cowl panel screen. I ran out of paint for the passanger door and didn't start preping it yet since its suppose to rain tomorrow afternoon. Found some more rust, and crappy previous owner patch work in the bed near the tailgate. Thinking about ordering bed floor pieces instead of making patch panels. Found a 4 spd on craigslist but the guy got rid of the pedal (Id rather just swap in pedals). So now I'm just kinda shopping around for stuff. Are there any other company besides DPI, Blazen offroad, Offroad design, and DIY4x that makes tubular bumpers?? I thought about buying a bender and making my own, but I really dont have the space to mount out to the floor.

Is that rattle can flat black or are you spraying it on with a gun?

My thought on buying a bender was bolting it to the center of my garage floor with anchors in the concrete. Unbolt when not in use and store it in a corner. Put bolts in the holes to keep crap out while not in use.

its rattle can flat black... but for some reason the pigment in the cans is different and the front doesnt match the rear.... it pisses me off lol. Ive got a buddy with a bender I might talk to him, but he b/s alot of people about helping them bend up stuff.

Well I finally got the hood and door done. I found a crossover steering kit (knuckle, arm, draglink, pitman arm) somewhere and now I cant for the life of me find it again. All you really had to buy was the box and the "kit" came with everything else. Also Im debating on buying some 8lug 15x8 steelies. these tires have to much tread on them to just sell and put some 1/4 tread allterrains on here.

Nice k5, you can find a full crossover system over at offroaddesign.com .

I will prob. go with offroad unlimited's kit. I don't have any flap top knuckles around to get drilled and tapped. Plus after finding a knuckle the cheapest place I have found is $150 to machine, drill and tap it then you factor in the steering arm so you looking about $250 right there including shipping. Then around $130 for some 1 1/2" dom and then all the TREs it will be pretty much the same as buying the ORU kit without the headache ya know??
I'm going to order 15x8 8lug wheels this week, and I'm picking up a 14 bolt semi floater for $100 this coming weekend that I'm not really taking any money out of my pocket b/c I'm putting carrier bearings in a friends camaro. I thought I had a set of H2s for free on lock down, but guy needed some cash and sold them. Plus my 33s have plenty of tread left. I got the wild hair the other night after having a few drinks to try and start it with nothing but manifolds and I put the battery charger on it assuming it was dead and the battery had a full charge, but my starter is frozen. I beat the hell out of it but it just wouldn't turn. But luckly my power window motors and door lock actuators all still work.
