anybody tried it in their 6.2/6.5?

i may have came across a pretty sweet deal on some, and was planning on running it in my 05 D-max

i did some research and have read that i need to add a additive to the fuel since it has no lube.

I have heard pro's and con's to it about 50/50 either way of run it, or dont run it.

just seeing if anyone here has had any experience with it.

This isn't much of a pro engine-wise, but JP8 smells GREAT! I'd wear that chit as cologne:D

As you learned it has no lube so you definitely need additives in it, I would put the max recomended amount of additives, and I would even put a bit of ATF or 10 weight oil.
I would experiment with my 6.2 but I wouldn't put it in a newer Dmax :dunno:

I would not use it in a diesel engine. The flashpoint of diesel is 125> for winter use, 135> for summer use, and the flash point of JP-8 is 100<. That low of flash point may cause detonation on compression. When I worked in pipelining refined products, if we had diesel (No2 FO) that the flash was below 125* F, we could not release it for sale.

That's what we ran in HMMWV's and CUCV's while I was in the Navy. I wouldn't do it in my personal vehicle, it ruins fuel pumps, and after you've run the engine up to operating temp and then shut it off you'd have to pour cool water on the pump to get it to start again before it'd cool down.

Actually when I was in Afghanistan we ran JP-8 in everything that was diesel...

I've heard of it being used as a cold weather addtive to aid starting and preventing gelling, but I'd be leery of using any in a later computer controlled diesel ...some guys I know use it in big rigs once in a while to keep the fuel injectors clean, some shops will add jet fuel to diesel to clean the soot out of the combustion chambers too...

It lacks the lubrication properties of diesel as well. It really is a lot more like kerosene than it is like diesel. I did run it in a diesel ford fiesta when I was living in Spain. The car didn't run great anyway so I couldn't tell a real difference in performance. That little bucket wasn't computer controlled in anyway either so I'm sure that made a difference.
