Rebuilding the brakes all the way around on my '73 K-5 (350/350/203). I've been using NAPA parts but their front rotor/hub assemblies run nearly $150 a piece!

I'm still deciding whether to replace the whole hub/rotor or simply go with the rotors . To my knowledge the front hubs have never been replaced or serviced. If it helps, I'm running "32's and plan on using ceramic pads.

Thoughts? Anyone like a particular source for these parts? I'm in Orlando and have access to NAPA, Autozone, Advanced, Car Quest and Pep Boys.

THANKS!!!

Something wrong there. Check out a different parts store. I've bought hub/rotor assemblies for $150 a pair.

If your hubs aren't damaged then why replace them? If you are concerned about the guts then replace the bearings and races. If your main focus is brakes then just swap the rotors and pads and be done.

I just did the same in the front of my 76 Jimmy. My only suggestion is that you go some place where you can take the old ones in with you. May not be a problem with yours but my 76 had a 77 axle and the hubs were different! Multiple trips to several places for parts etc. and two days to do a 2-3 hr. job! I'm still stuck with a pair that I got off the internet that didn't fit and am hassling the vendor. Finally got the right ones from NAPA for about $90.00 each. Good luck.

I believe they went to a bigger bearing hub in 76. There are two versions of hubs in these old trucks.

'77 marked the beginning year of the 2nd design axles.

Thanks for the replies.

Got the "Premium" rotors from NAPA for $50 ea. Also picked up the inner and outer bearing sets and seals. A local machine shop is going to press in the new bearings, studs and rotors for $25.

I'm still looking for a good graphic to ensure I put everything back together right.

That sounds like you got two bearings per side. FYI there are three bearing per side. Look inside the spindle. These are often overlooked. They can be a PIA to get out so if they look good just clean them and grease them.

Beating out the old race and beating in a new one is really no big deal. Just make sure you have them seated all the way around. The wheel studs are even easier.
