K30 with a 6.2

I actually thought about it while welding up the shifter, but I didn't. It is the thought that counts, right?

Mine is now one solid shaft nothing moves. Do you know how to remove the shifter?

Put it in neutral, take the boots off. When you get to the shifter there is a round part around the shifter. Push down and turn it to the left. It will pop loose and pull straight up on the shifter.

Some of them come out easy, some are a bitch. If it fights you, a pair of water pump pliers usually works good to push it down and turn it.

Alright. Ill just pop it out and take it into class. Can't wait to have a solid shifter!

Installed the radio. Speakers really helped in the dash. Cleaned everything pretty well looks much better. Rear main took a crap so it is getting fixed tomorrow.

Had the rear main seal fixed since I have too many projects already for spring break. Much better but I did get a nice coating of rust proofing before the repair. While the pan was off had the mech inspect for cracks. He found nothing so I am happy the bottomend is solid. Maybe pushed my luck a little the other day but I ran a mile at wot. Boost read 18 psi at one point but the EGT was never over 800. Still runs like a top.

The new seal lasted 2 days. Not sure what too do now. Pull the 6.2 and rering it or swap in a Cummins (4bt or 6bt) or just get a 454 or 8.1. Most likely trying to keep the sm465 because of cost.

An 8.1 would be sweet, but you most likely wouldnt be able to use the 465. Im fairly certain you would have to use the stick that the 8.1 comes with as that thing has wiring for days. And I know the tranny has electric components that the 8.1 would need for its EFI systems. Swapping to a carb would be a thought, but I have yet to see the 8.1 with a carb, as the heads are completely different than oval port 454 heads. The one I just finished would destroy a 6.2, or a 6.5 for that matter, all day on any surface pulling anything period. With the exception of gas mileage, but it does average 15 which isnt horrible.

The Cummins would be cool as well, way better power.

But re doing the 6.2 would probably be your cheapest option and easiest to do.

The turbo'd 6.2 is known for blowing rear mains. I know banks limited boost to 10psi or so. That said i have seen others boosting to 15. Does yours have alot of blow by?

A 6bt would go great in you dually that or a 453t

I'd try to figure out why the seal blew so quick first. Could be something stupid like just needing a new cdr valve or possibly was put in wrong.

That said rebuilding the 6.2 is the cheapest route, everything else there's plenty of threads showing how much work those swaps can take.
