Hi, I am in the process of building a Dana 44 front axle out of a '76 K5. When I bought it, it was missing everything from the driver's side except the knuckle. I am in search of an axle shaft for it as it is the last thing I need. This is a quote from a local Craigslist ad;
"73-80 Chevy c10 k10 blazer front differential, axle shafts, knuckles, brake parts, $25 to $150"
I thought that all Blazers were K5?
Will the axle shaft from this listing fit in my axle?
I tried a search in here and 73-91 technical with no luck, sorry if this is a stupid question...

Doesn't matter 6lug Dana 44 in a Chevy is a 6 lug Dana 44.

Unless it's an external hub Dana 44.

Zero difference between a blazer and a pickup. Axleshafts are axleshafts

Unless the one advertised is a 10-bolt front axle! Not a lot of people understand that a 10-bolt and D44 are different axles and many of the internals, including the axleshafts, will not interchange. In any case it would be worth taking a look as it could very well be a D44.

Thanks for the help. I will have the guy check when he gets back in town on Thursday.

Well that didn't work out how I hoped. He told me it was the long side shaft from a mid-70s chevy Dana 44, but it's about 10" shorter than what I need. What is the correct length I need? Is it 36 1/8" or 35.5"?

Dana 44 =
36.13" long side inner
18.5" short side inner
all Chevy applications are 30-spline

10-bolt =
35.5" long side inner
19.15" short side inner
Most are 28-spline, except for 'around '89 to '91 K5's and Subs which are 30-spline (but still not the same as D44 versions)

Stub shafts are the same between D44 and 10-bolt axles.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR CLEARING THAT UP!
Now I have to try to sell this damn 25" shaft. I have no idea what it came out of. Obviously not a Chevy.
At least the guy I picked it up from told me about some good trails I have never even heard of before....

25" is weird. Maybe early Bronco or 70's CJ? Is it 27-spline? When you say narrow 44 I think Scout, but those should only be like 4" shorter than Chevy. Possibly what you have is more valuable than a Chevy shaft. Oh, and how are you measuring length?

I am measuring from the spline end to the center of the u joint hole.
I have a buddy with a classic bronco. I will try to measure his and see if it is the same. I will have to double check the spline count. It looked like 30, but there probably isn't much of a difference appearance-wise between 27 and 30. I thought all CJs had D30s up front....

That is the correct way to measure length. Thought early Bronco 44's were around 28" (long side). Also not aware of any CJ's that came from the factory with a front D44, though there are early Wagoneers and J-trucks with narrow width D44 fronts but not sure of the length.

I double-checked last night and it is, for sure, 25" long and 30 spline. I haven't been able to find out what it is from yet, though.

Are the spines roll formed like OEM or are they cut on a mill with an index head?

I have no idea. Photobucket wont let me post a picture because I haven't signed up for premium membership or something. Is there a way to post from a stored image on the computer?

Hey, guys. Thanks for all your help building my axle. It's been a while and my project is finally done. I know it's not a Blazer, but it is a 76 K5 front axle and I hope you guys can appreciate the work anyway.

Well, I'll just focus on the axle and not see the rest!! LOL. Anyways, where are you wheelin in that pic. That looks pretty cool. So much different than what I run up here in Oregon.

Haha yeah, yeah, yeah... I'm in Phoenix, Arizona at a trail called Squeeze Rock. This picture is from right before the entrance to the trail.

So that's in your backyard so to speak. I've been in AZ a little and some of the terrain would be an absolute kick to explore. I'm an aircooled VW nut and I'd love to trailer my baja down and turn it loose in the desert. Fun fun fun.

Yeah, this trail is about 30-45 min from my house. I love AZ. Moved here from Southern California a little over 5 years ago. It rekindled my love for everything off-road. Not many places you can drive 20 minutes and be on a trail. Tons of rock crawling out here also.
