Anyone ever seen or owned one? If you look through old brochures, it says the top was actually an option.

If so, what did they have for a tail gate? They wouldn't put a tail gate with a window on a vehicle with no top would they? I wonder if they just had a standard pickup tail gate on them? Maybe that is why they have the provisions to use a pickup tail gate on all of the tubs???

Just curious.

I saw a 74 at a car show once looked like a pickup tailgate. It also lacked the passenger seat and back seats. No bumpers( also options) only idiot lights on the gauge cluster. Just a Speedo and fuel guage. He had the documentation to prove it was ordered like that.

I know in first generation Blazers it was definitely and option. Of course they didn't have windows on the tailgates anyway. I was with my dad when he ordered it and he was a little pissed when the sales guy (a friend of his) told him it was an option. He thought that was crazy coming from the New England but for the CA guys it was money well saved I bet.

Everything was an option as it came only with a drivers seat and if I remember, 3 speed standard. My dad got the 4sp, 307, 4wd, passenger seat, rear passenger seat, spare tire & carrier, body side trim moldings, gauges (no tach), forest grn paint w/black roof, radial tires, full coverage hub caps, AM radio. Forgot, it also had pwr brakes and steering.

If I remember right is was $3,400 or $3,800!

Ding ding, we have a winner.

Trucks without a hardtop (which also include those with a soft top) came with a pickup tailgate.

LMC lists, or at least used to list, the pickup tailgate and hinges & stuff for Blazers "without factory hard top" or the like.

What year did they make the hard top standard?

Martin

'73-75 full-convertibles had a dealer-optioned soft top.

'76-'81 had a factory-offered soft top. As of the '82 brochures I see no mention of the "Blazer Convertible" (soft-top.)

Dig through the Brochures link below, lotsa stuff in there.

Irish1942 showed me a factory soft top option too. I guess straight out of a brochure. Looked just like today's stuff.

My dad got his 72 with the same options except it was an automatic with a 350. I have the original bill of sale and it was $5k ($6450 out the door with all the fees). I posted a pic of the bill not long ago.

My dad used to buy all his trucks cash from the same guy. In 78' he bought a K30, 350, 4.56 posi, 4 speed, radio for $9,300 cash out the door. Found that slip a couple years ago when we were throwing out the paper work from the old business.

Funny thing is that truck was a Chevy. Had the bow tie on the grill and hub caps. The fenders had GMC on them and the interior had Sierra on the dash. Bow tie on the horn cap. All original that way.

Think that's what they call a Friday truck... or maybe a Monday truck, if the Detroit guys had hangovers :haha:
