Keeps overheating on just idle

It's hard NOT to get an air pocket when flushing all your coolant out. It helps to have a thermostat that has a relief hole in it, I think most do anymore. Glad you got it running cool again. Supposed to be 110 here on Friday and Saturday.
I always drill one if they don't have one. I usually fill the system while the thermostat is out. When I see the level come up into the cavity below the thermostat, I'll install it (with hole drilled) and then finish filling. A few squeezes of the upper radiator hose with the cap on usually helps to purge any air to the top of the radiator as well. Then pull the cap, top off and go.

I do believe that is a reverse flow impeller

No kiddin? That's crazy. I drove it hour and a half home when i bought it, and have been on a few afternoon excursions before it decided to start overheating. At least it's fixed.

I always drill a hole in the tstat flange. @3/32". Helps burp, and draining.
Doesn't seem to effect over all running temp.
