What is the correct way to adjust the passing gear kick down cable on a TH350 tranny. I cant seem to get it in the right location.:dunno: can they stretch?

You adjust it so that the trans will kick down at what ever speed you want it to. It's is completely different than a 700R4 TV cable. You don't even need to have a kickdown cable if you don't mind manually down shifting the trans for passing gear.

You can custom tailor the adjustment and may have too,if the carb has been changed or you have an aftermarket intake--those can throw off the geometry the cable travels thru because the throttle lever might not swing in the same arc or have the same amount of travel as the original one....you might have to rig up a metal extention bracket or move the ball the cable snaps onto ,to a different location on the carb, use a different bracket where the adjuster is,etc...I've heard conflicting reports about ditching the detent cable, but I've run a few TH350's with one dissconnected and had no issues--(or passing gear either!)unless I downshifted it manually..one tranny guy told me as long as the cable stays "in" all the way it wont hurt the tranny..

So its just a matter of adjusting it back and forth to change the shift point. I guess I will continue to play with it. Thanks guys:waytogo:

Mine th350 slips right when it gets into 3rd. If I disconnect detent cable, it doesn't do it. Would I pull the cable out more and then lock the adjuster on place or push it in?

The cable on a 350 should not be pulled until close to wide open throttle and it should be fully pulled out to it's stop at wide open throttle. If you have an adjustable modulator on this trans, try turning the center screw in the nipple three turns clockwise for increased line pressure.

Thanks Greg.

Im trying to adjust the modulator but i have only a couple of inches between the nipple screw and the transfer case.

Do you have any tricks?
