was out burning the gas in the tank today so i can drop it for a shackle flip and noticed a knock coming from the front once i was in 4wd. it stopped when i unlocked the hubs and i drove home fine. the knock was there whether i was going straight or turning, couldn't feel it in the wheel though. u joint? something in the hub?

was just out front, raised the front end, locked the hubs and everything seems smooth. wheels turn, driveshaft turns, u joints look ok. i did notice i could pull both driver and pass shafts in and out about a 1/4 inch...doesn't seem right. it's a d44 btw

Odds are he is right, but look at your front driveshaft carefully. I have seen things get too close to a U-joint and it hits it as you go down the road.
Might clear if the truck is on a jack.

Sometimes its because some bolts worked loose and let a bracket slip, and once it was a stick that got jammed into the frame and was rubbing the shaft.

Im no pro sorry... but i think boondock5 is right. It will feel tight cause its rusted tight. Could be still broke though. Plz dont take my advice though. Im not a mechanic :) Just been breaking and fixing my Jimmy for over 10 yrs. I think hes right. Realy check them Ujoints :)
