I crawled under my '82 K30 today to change the oil, and found a surprise from this weekend.

It runs from the center of the lower end of the the bellhousing, up to where the clutch fork goes through.

Has anyone ran a Lakewood bellhousing? Does anyone else make another aftermarket bellhousing? I have another stock bellhousing, but I assume I am just going to break it as well. Anyone else have trouble breaking them?

I assume the Lakewood 15035 is the correct one for a Chevrolet V8 and an SM465? I am guessing that is what they mean by Saginaw?

i believe the muncie bolt pattern and the 465 bolt pattern is the same. i was actually wondering the same thing. im interested to see if anybody else has already tried this and if it will work.

Lakewood and others make good bellhousings. Provided you get the housing matched for the 465 or drilled/bored appropriately it should be fine. On a related note it's a very good idea to center the housing with a dial indicator and offset dowel pins.

I remember a member tried using a LW bell on his 465/Doubler setup but for some reason the bell wouldn't work. Can't remember specifics of why. Username was Realsquash but not sure how to reach him unless you find an email addy in his profile.

IIRC lakewood makes a few different bellhousings, maybe a HD and the blow proof model. I think the hd/replacement models dont have the SFI ratings but are a upgrade from stock. I could be wrong

Looks like the retainer diameter is larger than a standard car Muncie. Bore out the bell housing center at a competent machine shop if necessary and center the housing - nbd.

As the reader will conclude, the Chevrolet and General Motors SM465 will marry directly to a GM style bell housing. This includes Chevy car, Buick, Oldsmobile and Pontiac bell housings. However, since this transmission has such a large bearing retainer, the car size bell housing bore is smaller than the transmission's input bearing retainer. If you need to join this transmission to a GM bell housing with the 4-11/16” bore, it can be done. The bore must be opened up to 5.000” and the retainer turned down to 4.995” as precision slip-fit. We can perform this service with a very quick turnaround, or you may have it done by a good machine shop local to you. We also sell new bearing retainers turned to the dimension you require."

Also, Lakewood appears to know the issue well and can accommodate this with custom machining if needed:

Marty you are hard on stuff. Doesn't a c60 use a cast Iron bellhousing?

I have never really looked at the bellhousing in the old man's C60. Did C60's ever use SM465's?

Called jake and he told me they have a different belhousing to take the 13" clutch. What about one off a sm420?

Don't know. I was gonna say, the old man's C60 is a 366 and a 5 speed with a 2 speed axle.
