So my front Dana 60 is open, I have a posi unit from a M1028 for it (trac-loc) on the shelf for it, I was offered a spartan locker at a decent price, what's the difference? Also does a spartan unlock like my Detroit does in my 14ff?

Trac-loc is light duty .

Lunch box lockers do ratchet and send power when needed . I know of 1 that had a stub shaft blowup on 38" tires and didn't hurt it .

How does the tracloc work? Locked until you turn, or lock when a tire spins?

When I looked into it the spartan seemed to be what everyone said to go with.

Im putting a spartan up front and have an Aussie locker in the rear on my heep.

The rear clunks pretty loud when it’s cold and doesn’t have any oil on it yet. It only happens on a tight turn with power.

It’s still breaking in and it’s starting to get better.

Spartan is doing well on 38 -> 37 -> not sure yet 40s
I’ve had it unlock maybe once. I don’t feel like the Spartan or rear Detroit ever unlock.

I ran a Spartan locker in my front ten bolt, it's a good design and easy to install. The only time I heard it ratcheting was with the hubs locked and in 2hi on pavement.
I run a lock right in my 60 now, and it's tight. I have never heard it ratchet, and I found it tough to steer in the slickrock. (I have a rear grizzly locker). Pretty much a spool when power is applied.

FWIW I’ve never heard the spartan make any noise on D60 application. I’ve broken both my stub shafts and a Yukon hardcore lockout but the spartan keeps taking the abuse.

I would think if you never hear it ratchet, it's pretty much a spool at that point isn't it?

I had a "lock right" in the front of my toyota while running 37's. I sheered the spring pins and then repaired it. It never worked right after that. I ended up replacing it with a "spartan locker" and the ratcheting teeth and spring pins seem to be a much more robust design. The truck is now on 40's with hydro assist and I haven't had any issues with binding while turning. It doesn't seem to be as noisy as the lock right was either. With my personal experience the spartan held up well in that application but the toyota is pretty light.
