Well, I know that this section doesn't get a lot of visitors, but I'm just popping in to let everyone here know that I just got my 4" Rough Country lift and I'm picking up a rebuilt 12 bolt rear for Fillmore in the morning. I've got a few more odds and ends to pick up...not to mention 35" tires, but the build thread will be started early this June!!

Just thought I'd bring some life back in here.

great another burb thread, bring it!

Wish I still had my suburban

I say that about my 1990 Blazer. I kick myself for selling it when I was going through what I call my "stupid" period of my life. When the Mrs. informed me 2 1/2 years ago that she was pregnant, I was all for getting another Blazer. But she actually talked me into a Suburban just for the ease of car-seat/baby insertion. 4 doors are better than 2 sometimes.

Ok, just a couple more weeks and the project will get under way. 4" lift, replace the whining 10 bolt rear with another 10 bolt, ( we'll see how well another 10 bolt goes ), new steering box with XJ shaft and frame patch, serpentine belt conversion and maybe a newer 89-91 GMC grill to replace the 88 grill I have.

All topped off with a road trip to Yellowstone Nat'l Park later this summer so my wife can finally see a bear in the wild. Should be a great summer!! :woot::woot:

I've been browsing this forum for about a year and figured I had to post on this. I'm in Billings too and just started beefing up my 91 Suburban to tow my camper. So far just 2" lift from Add a Leafs and new shocks all around with coil overs in the rear. Can't wait to see your build.

What part of town do you live in? I'm near the water department and the coal plant. Not a bad neighborhood and I have a very understanding land lord that lets me work on all my rigs. :woot:

I'm off of 24th in Casa Village. We have a heated 3 stall shop we can use but it can be tough to get in there sometimes when people leave their vehicles in there for weeks on end. I'll get some pics up as soon as I have enough post, maybe I'll start a build thread in here also but I suck at documenting and taking pictures all the time.

Well......maybe it's a blessing in disguise!

It looks like the build is gonna be a little more extensive than I thought. My truck needs a new intake manifold gasket so while I do that, I'm gonna do a serpentine belt swap, new tranny cooler and radiator shroud since I only have the upper half of one now, and maybe an MSD distributor and new timing chain. I'm even going with new front window weather stripping and I'm going to work on my headliner. I might as well do this all in one swoop and get it over with right?!?

Then I can install the lift, new rear axle and build up parts. So, this week begins the tear down and slow rebuild of my poor old Suburban. I plan on taking my time so by the fall, (if my funds allow it), I'll have it back on the road and 100% again.

So tomorrow I'm going to take off the core support and radiator so I can have extra room to work on everything up front.

Oh, and MT86K5, you said you wanted to help right?:D

Ha, I would love to help, if only I had more time.... If you get in a pinch give me a call, I'll PM my number to you. Do you know anything about the rear A/C? Mine has not worked since I got it but so far I've only checked the fuse. I'm taking it one thing at a time got my tires and lift done last week, now I think I will try to rebuild my TBI hoping the drive ability will improve then some CFM technologies parts I'll throw at it.

Ok, so as of 6-18-11, my build up begins. I'll snap as many pics as I can and hopefully my budget will survive this......more importantly, I hope my wife doesn't kill me for spending too much $$.

First order of bizz, disassemble the front end of the truck so I can easily get to the front of the engine and prep it for the serpentine swap, new timing chain and other doo-dads.

So Dan, what did you get done this weekend?

I cussed like a drunken sailor at the truck, threw tools at the truck, kicked the dog into the truck, sweated like a pig over, under and around the truck and drank a few Corona's as I leaned on the truck. :haha::doah:

Seriously though, I had a hard time getting started on Saturday because of a sinus headache that made me feel like my head was going to pop off my shoulders everytime I bent over, didn't start until after noon. Then, I had a helluva time taking the front bumper off. All I have left to do is remove the radiator and take the core support off this week. Then I can dig into the engine and get it sorted out.

Well, I didn't get a damn thing done this weekend because I worked 26 hours straight Thurs-Friday pulling duty at the hospital with a resident from the group home I work at so it wiped me out for Saturday. Amazing how tired you get when you work from 6 am Thursday to 8:30 am Friday. :doah:

As for today, I've just been kinda lazy. But this week I'm gonna finish up on the disassembly and prepping for the new intake manifold gasket and timing chain next weekend. I'm going to replace any suspect vacuum lines, clean up the engine bay and engine, replace my spliced-to-hell tranny lines and install a tranny cooler while I'm at it. :woot:

Also, I figure I'm gonna forget the serpentine belt swap for now and just run the V-belts since I don't want to spend a metric ton of cash right now. So I'm going to the local wrecking yard and I'm going to find a power steering bracket that isn't cracked and throw it in or maybe try to get my old one welded up.

Good, now with all that OT you should be to dump more $ in to the Burb.

I still have to go through the "Finance Committee" and she's tough. But the way I figure it, the more money I spend on the Burb now, the bigger the house I have to buy her down the road. :deal:

Well, I got a bunch done this weekend. I got the core support off, (what a pain in the farkin' butt that was). I also got most of the front of the engine taken apart. Then it's time to take the steering box off, change out the tranny cooling lines, clean up the motor and put it all back together.

Pics to come tomorrow of the tear down.
