Man,

Y'all have me in stitches! :haha: All these 10 Bolts in the rocks??? I thought everyone said they aren't good to have. I see carnage too! I'm not laughing at the damages, it's just that everyone rags on the capabilities of the 10 Bolts and then I see y'all puttin' them through the paces. Good stuff! :waytogo:

Here are a few more. I have a 14bff rear but I have a locked 10 bolt front. I didn't have much problems with 35" MTR's in the rocks. I have had more problems with 37" tires. 1/2 ton fronts are ok to 37" tires but you will have problems at some point in time & if you wheel it hard you will have more problems. Several guys in AZ have snapped CHROMO axleshafts front & rear along with R&P's, lockers, hubs, etc in hard use.

safe? no.

safer then being locked? yes.

If you want to play hard with 37"+ tires you really should look into a D60. If you don't plan on bigger then 38's and already have the 10 bolt try it and see if it will last.

Good God!

Keep in mind when he was floggin it he kept the tires pretty straight. He did alot of lock to lock manuvering but when he got on it the tires were close to being straight. Axles and ujoints are the strongest when they are straight. The easiest way to bust a front axle is to turn the wheels to full lock and gas it. Bouncing is also a big no no but his chromo's saved his arse in those vids. Stock axles and ujoints probably would have busted.

1/2 ton front axles are easier to get away with then 1/2 ton rears. If you really plan on playing with tires 35"+ and you are really set on 1/2 rear you really should think about a full case locker & chromo axleshafts. This will cost $$$ and you could probably upgrade to a 3/4 ton rear. Its your choice.

10 bolt front, 14 bolt rear and 42s. Ran it for about 3 years never broke anything (axle related).

You are only the 2nd person I have seen run 42's and get away with it. There is one guy in AZ that runs 42's on a D44 w/chromo's & locker and has gotten away with it sofar. His truck is lightened though being narrowed front and rear. He is a good driver though cause he has a BBC with enough power to snap stuff easy. He is looking for a D60 passively though because he was with a group of us AZ guys in Parker and watched 37's break 2 chromo stubs in the same day. Survival of 1/2 tons with big tires and lockers is mostly about driving style.
